Position Purpose

Performs professional accounting duties that involve the compilation, consolidation, analysis, and reporting of financial data to ensure accurate financial management and compliance with district and governmental accounting standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Accounting
  • Classifies, records, and summarizes numerical and financial data to compile and maintain accurate financial records in alignment with governmental accounting principles and district procedures.
  • Ensures proper categorization of staff within the Random Moment Time Study (RMTS) to facilitate the preparation of the SHARS Cost Report.
  • Reconciles the quarterly Fairbanks Medicaid Participant Listing (PL) for use in the Cost Report and Time Study.
  • Prepares and submits quarterly and annual cost reports to the third-party billing contractor.
  • Maintains and reviews compliance with IDEA and HIPAA confidentiality standards in Medicaid billing processes.
  • Assists in gathering necessary information and preparing Medicaid audit responses and reports for federal and state officials.
  • Prepares accurate and timely audit schedules and financial statements in compliance with federal, state, and GASB standards.
  • Compiles and prepares financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, consolidated statements, and other relevant reports.
  • Reconciles bank accounts, Oil & Gas revenue, and investment activity to ensure financial accuracy and compliance.
  • Supports the preparation of investment reports and performs daily tracking and recording of investment transactions.
  • Executes banking transactions as required, including deposits, transfers, and wire processing.
  • Assists with generating investment reports, daily tracking and recording of investment transactions.
  • Performs banking transactions as needed.
  • Supports management in tracking and ensuring the completion of project milestones.
  • Computes and prepares data for journal entries to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Conducts financial and profitability analyses as requested to support decision-making and strategic planning.
Administration
  • Works with administrators, principals, directors, and staff regarding budget and accounting issues.
  • Assign work to accounting clerks and other employees engaged in accounting activities.
Reporting & Recordkeeping
  • Prepares timely audit schedules and financial statements according to federal, state, and GASB standards.
  • Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other documents required, including auditable records and financial statements.
Safety
  • Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

  • Knowledge of governmental accounting and auditing principles established by the Governmental Accounting System Board (GASB).
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of budget control methods, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of District policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and District policies and procedures regarding education and students.
  • Skill in performing mathematical and financial calculations with accuracy.
  • Skill in critical thinking: using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternatives solutions, conclusions, and approaches to problems.

Travel Requirements
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals.
  • Posture Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
  • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
  • Environment: Works in an office setting; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university in accounting or business related required.
  • Certification/License: TASBO certification preferred.
  • Experience: 4 years' working experience in accounting preferred
