Rotating 8-hour work schedule, Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:30 am - 5:30 pm.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW Join the Residential, Retail and Supply Chain Services (RRSS) team at UC San Diego, a dynamic and innovative campus department dedicated to delivering exceptional service to the university community. RRSS consists of five key units: Housing, Dining and Hospitality (HDH), Integrated Procure-to-Pay Solutions (IPPS), the UC San Diego Bookstore, Triton Print & Digital Media, and the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC). RRSS aims to inclusively meet the diverse needs of the UC San Diego community while fostering belonging for students and staff.
POSITION DESCRIPTION Under general supervision of the ECEC Director and Program Coordinators, initiate, plan and implement Early Education programs for children aged three months to five years old. Maintain program quality, adhering to Title 22 State Licensing standards, developmental profiles, and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation Standards. Plan and develop age-appropriate activities in daily curriculum areas such as language, art, dramatic play, multicultural and social justice awareness, manipulative toys, block play, problem solving, science, nutrition and outdoor play. Observe, document, assess and complete developmental profiles using the Early Years Learning Framework or equivalent assessment tool. Supervise groups of children and create developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor activities. Monitor safety and adult-child ratios; maintain a warm, inclusive learning environment that promotes mutual respect and positive self-image.
Ensure children are within sight and sound of qualified classroom teachers; assist with hygiene (washing, diapering, toileting) and monitor health needs, taking corrective action as necessary. Maintain awareness of children’s dietary needs and communicate allergies and special needs to staff. Ensure safe, sanitary and orderly spaces; repair and stock materials as needed. Follow health and safety procedures outlined in the ECEC Employee Handbook.
Provide input to performance evaluations based on ongoing observation. Meet with classroom team weekly to plan and reflect. Train and assign work to staff; guide performance standards and expectations. Foster relationships that support social-emotional development in infants and young children. Conduct data collection in compliance with local, state and federal requirements and maintain records for related programs such as NAEYC. Interact with parents daily; provide brief reports and conduct parent orientation and regular parent-teacher conferences.
QUALIFICATIONS Must possess and maintain the Child Development Teacher Permit or above from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing; provide proof of completion of three college-level units in Infant/Toddler coursework.
Experience planning and supervising a developmentally appropriate program for children ages 3 months to five years.
Knowledge of and experience with federal and state health and safety regulations for child development facilities.
Experience leading and directing teachers, student assistants and substitutes; ability to train staff and select effective methods for solutions.
Experience assisting children with hygiene and appropriate action for illness; knowledge of emergency procedures and ability to respond calmly in hazards.
Experience developing and implementing curricula for ages 3 months to five years.
Current knowledge of Child Development theory and best practices in early childhood education group care settings.
Experience collecting data and maintaining compliance in record-keeping for related programs (e.g., NAEYC).
Experience using Early Years Learning Framework assessment tools and completing classroom assessments.
Ability to plan indoor and outdoor lessons using EYLF assessment tools and results.
Ability to reflect on assessment outcomes and environmental rating scale results to develop annual developmental profiles.
Ability to use computer programs to record developmental assessments, communicate with parents, enhance curriculum and maintain classroom portfolios.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with a culturally diverse community.
Ability to build partnerships with parents, children, teachers and community representatives to provide quality programming.
Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, writing) as used with young children.
Ability to stay organized, focused, and self-paced; flexibility to rotate through classrooms.
Must satisfy the requirement for a "Fully Qualified Teacher" within the applicable infant/preschool category as defined by Title 22.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS Must possess and maintain current First Aid/CPR Certification (pediatric focus) and related training.
Must possess and maintain current TB Clearance and Health Screening.
Must possess and maintain current immunization records (influenza, pertussis, measles).
FBI/DOJ Livescan background check and clearance required prior to hire.
This position is a Mandated Reporter under CANRA and requires immediate reporting of abuse or neglect.
Certificate for 7 hours of Preventive Health Practices for Childcare Providers; EMSA Training Certificate required.
Education/Permit requirement:
Must possess and maintain the Child Development Teacher Permit level credential or above.
Must show proof of completion of three college-level Infant/Toddler units or enroll in qualifying coursework within 4 months of hire and complete within 12 months.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $53,411 - $75,669 (prorated if appointment percentage Compensation factors include experience, skills, education, licensure and certifications, and organizational needs. This range may be broader than the final offered salary.
