Position Summary The TK Afterschool Assistant Teacher/Teacher Aide Floater is part of a team that helps create a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for all children enrolled in the program. This role supports classroom teachers and fosters positive, respectful relationships with the families served by the YMCA TK Afterschool Program. The Assistant Teacher is expected to maintain a professional and supportive attitude, model positive behavior, and follow all guidelines established by Community Care Licensing, as well as directions provided by the Lead Teacher and Site Director. Job Responsibilities Plan and lead developmentally appropriate lessons, curriculum, and daily activities. Assist with classroom setup and cleanup. Help implement Chinese or Spanish immersion curriculum and uphold quality standards such as ECERS, CLASS, and NAEYC. Complete required state-mandated paperwork and observations to support curriculum development. Maintain a positive, structured learning environment through effective classroom management and active supervision of children ages 3.5 to 5. Respond promptly to incidents and complete necessary documentation. Arrive on time and prepared for each shift. Maintain clean, safe, and organized indoor and outdoor environments. Support and collaborate with teachers, aides, volunteers, and families. Communicate regularly about child behavior and program updates. Report to the Lead Teacher and escalate unresolved issues to the Site Coordinator or Program Director as needed. Support family engagement by assisting with Classroom Parent Orientations. Professional ResponsibilitiesClassroom Environment & Management Attend professional development, mandatory trainings, and staff meetings. Complete all required safety and compliance trainings. Follow all YMCA policies related to scheduling, safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors. Demonstrate YMCA core values and commitment to leadership growth in mission advancement, relationship building, and team development. Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor. Minimum Qualification s Must be 18 years of age or older High school diploma or GED required Available Monday–Friday during program hours (M – F, 5 hours/day, 25 hours/week; school year- program) At least 350 days of experience in a licensed childcare setting (minimum 3 hours per day within the past 4 years) CPR/First Aid certification approved by the YMCA (can be completed upon hire) Physical health screening and TB clearance required prior to hire and every 2 years Proof of immunizations for influenza, pertussis, and measles, as required by state regulations Fingerprint clearance through Community Care Licensing Preferred Qualifications Holds an Associate Teacher Permit or higher (minimum of 12 ECE core units) Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or another language commonly spoken in the community Associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or a related field Work Environment and Physical Demands Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations. Fingerprint clearance is required before the first day of employment and will be processed through the Association Office Human Resources department. Staff assigned to SFUSD campuses may be required to complete additional COVID-19 safety training as mandated by the district.
