Job Description
The Victim Witness Asst Program Coordinator- Time-Limited role at DeKalb County Government involves providing assistance to victims of misdemeanor crimes, contacting victims by phone, letter, or field visits, completing intake forms, determining and evaluating victim experiences and needs, making referrals and recommendations, and explaining and providing information and assistance regarding criminal justice processes.
Essential functions include evaluating cases, reviewing police reports, gathering additional information, compiling and submitting data, assessing cases, making recommendations, and referring cases as required by law. The role also involves assisting as a liaison between prosecution teams and victims, scheduling and attending field visits, collaborating with prosecutors, and communicating with the District Attorney’s Office.
The coordinator will attend court sessions, provide support to victims during court proceedings, accompany victims to court proceedings, contact victims if a court appearance is missed, and conduct welfare checks as needed. Community outreach, participation in community-based initiatives, and providing information and education on issues related to domestic violence and victim assistance are also part of the role.
Administrative duties include maintaining victim information in a case management system, preparing and sending letters, preparing and submitting reports, and retrieving necessary documents for incident review.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate's Degree in Social Work or a related field is required, with two years of experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, social justice, or a related field. A valid Georgia driver’s license is also required.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
