The Assistant Production Manager oversees performance, output, and safety during an assigned shift. This leadership role reports to the Production Manager and is critical in ensuring smooth, high-volume production in a clean, fast-paced environment. Crown Linen operates 365 days a year, so a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays is required.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Support the Production Manager in overseeing laundry operations across all departments (receiving, sorting, washing, folding, and distribution)
- Support team leads and resolves workflow or personnel issues promptly
- Ensure compliance with housekeeping, quality control, safety, and sanitation standards
- Monitor and report on labor, productivity (PPOH), and cost metrics
- Assist in preparing reports: daily KPIs, labor reports, operating logs, and customer feedback
- Coordinate with Engineering to maintain and troubleshoot production equipment
- Train, coach, and support staff on production methods and safety procedures
- Participate in hiring, training, reviews, and disciplinary processes
- Support emergency responses and customer issues as needed
- Promote employee engagement, retention, and team development
- Assist in maintaining OSHA compliance and regulatory training
- Maintain expected PPOH (e.g., 130+)
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and implement process improvement initiatives using Lean or Six Sigma tools
- Build a high-performing, safety-conscious, and accountable team environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Operations, Logistics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of supervisory experience, preferably in laundry, manufacturing, logistics, commercial, warehouse or distribution operations
- Strong understanding of production metrics (e.g. PPOH), cost control, and workflow optimization
- Experience in high-volume, time-sensitive environments (e.g. logistics, 3PL, commercial laundry, or manufacturing)
- Working knowledge of laundry equipment and washroom chemistry is a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; team-builder with a hands-on leadership style
- Knowledge of OSHA and safety standards
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies
- Working knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS) or production tracking tools
- Experience working with industrial laundry or high-volume production equipment
