Talent Stack LLC is representing a confidential client seeking a Forward Deployed Software Engineer – Tactical Edge (Delta) . This role is embedded in small, startup-like teams that work directly with customers to deploy mission-critical systems in resource-constrained, on-premise environments. Unlike traditional software development positions, this work demands engineers who can deploy, stabilize, and support containerized systems on compact hardware, often with limited resources and no hands-on access. Success requires breadth, grit, and independence to navigate the technical and operational complexity of tactical edge missions. Key Responsibilities Deploy, monitor, and maintain Kubernetes-based systems in air-gapped, on-prem, and edge environments. Debug Linux pods, troubleshoot distributed systems, and manage small form-factor infrastructure under resource constraints. Provide customer-facing support to DoD users, ensuring stability, scalability, and mission continuity. Own end-to-end execution of deployments with minimal supervision. Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align solutions with operational needs. Travel ~25% to customer sites for field deployments and hands-on mission support. Qualifications 2+ years of professional engineering experience (Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or related field). This position requires an active and transferable Secret (willing to upgrade to TS) OR Top Secret (TS) clearance (Preferable) 1+ year deploying/debugging applications in Kubernetes , preferably in a cleared or DoD environment. Proven background in on-premise / small form factor systems (not cloud-only). Ability to travel up to 25% and may include both domestic and OCONUS (Outside Continental United States) locations Demonstrated independence, problem-solving, and ownership in high-stakes environments. Strong customer-facing communication skills with clear motivation for mission-driven tactical edge work .
