Night Awake Counselor:
Summary:
The Night Awake Counselor is an Awake position that has the primary responsibility for providing assistance, implementing program plans or procedures, and crisis intervention services during the hours assigned. In accomplishing this, the night awake counselor has the following duties and responsibilities:
Night Awake staff must report, upon arrival at work, to the Residential supervisor/ designee of their respective dorms for nightly instructions. These include: student count for the dorm and particular instructions for that evening.
Night Awake staff must be able to work in any dorm, as needed.
Night Awake staff should walk through the dorm with the Supervisor or designee and verify a head count, prior to the supervisor leaving the building. They should also account for all keys assigned to the dorm, including any vehicle keys. Medication certified staff should count PRNs with the outgoing staff and ensure the keys are passed on. They should also do this with the shift coming on in the morning.
Night Awake staff should be thoroughly familiar with their assigned building’s fire procedure. This would include locations of all pull boxes, fire extinguishers, electrical and fire alarm control panels. They will also account for and possess for their shift, the dorm keys to their assigned building.
Night Awake duties include room checks, documentation, light cleaning, laundry and others duties as assigned.
Night Awake staff will check student’s rooms SIX times an hour (every 10 minutes) and will verify the head counts.
Night Awake staff must be assured children are in bed by checking for hair, skin or breathing.
Night Awake staff may occasionally be instructed by the Night Shift supervisor to watch one or more students more closely. This would require room checks to be changed accordingly. This must only be done with permission from the dorm supervisor before they leave the building.
Night Awake staff is responsible for the security of their assigned building.
Night Awake staff is responsible for calling the Night Awake Supervisor if anything out of the ordinary occurs.
Night Awake staff shall follow all company policies and procedures.
Night Awake staff shall maintain certification in all required training: including TCI, CPR/ First-Aid, Medical Administration, etc.
Night Awake staff shall maintain confidentiality of our youth at all times.
