The Brass Tacks
Annually prepares internal prework, group strategic plans, and departmental revenue and expense budgets, aligning closely with the General Manager to achieve property goals. Drives vision and purpose through department objectives, revenue driving strategies, team deployment and production goals, and individual targets. Creates departmental objectives, deployment strategies, production goals, and performance targets. Provide strong leadership and emotional intelligence; manage subordinates and resolve conflicts constructively. Hold regular one-on-one meetings and quarterly evaluations with team members. Meet and exceed department gross revenue and adjust quickly if targets are not met. Forecast future business volume using industry research and property data analysis. Produce monthly closing reports, owner’s reports, pace analytics, and forecasting reports accurately. Understand contractual language and agreements; ensure adherence to accounting standards. Report weekly prospecting, inquiries, activities, and industry events; report monthly financials. Manage group yielding with support from General Manager and Revenue Manager. Maintain sales and event platform administration and department standards. Provide overall direction and leadership for the team; support all group sales outreach and negotiations. Liaise with community organizations, city officials, industry associations, and public relations entities. Develop and maintain strong cross-department relationships and open communication. Training/Mentoring Hires, develops, mentors, and trains department team members; creates a monthly training program and conducts monthly department meetings. Implements corrective action and rewards appropriately. Individual Achieves departmental goals; proactive in sales efforts and client relationship building. Contributes to revenue growth across segments; responds to RFPs within 24 hours. Negotiates contracts, forecasts revenue, and maintains stakeholder relationships. Adheres to Columbia Hospitality Policies and Procedures. Additional job functions may be assigned based on business needs. The Nitty Gritty
Minimum 4-6 years of hospitality sales experience or similar. Extensive knowledge in sales and event management with strong negotiation skills. Problem solving with limited information; strong emotional intelligence and critical thinking. Ability to lead large teams and develop others; strong time management and planning. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; proficient in contracts and reports. Financial acumen with experience in P&L, budgeting, and dynamic pricing. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; hospitality sales platforms knowledge is a plus. Ability to travel (air/car, overnight stays, client entertainment).
