Overview
The Director of Biomedical Engineering is responsible for overseeing and leading the biomedical engineering operations across all facilities within Carle Health, ensuring the effective management, maintenance, and optimization of clinical technologies and medical equipment. This leadership role will drive the integration of biomedical engineering solutions that align with organizational goals while ensuring regulatory compliance, system reliability, and cost-efficiency. The Director will collaborate closely with clinical teams, Information Technology, and operational staff to implement best practices, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and foster continuous improvement in biomedical engineering services. Certifications: Certified Healthcare Technology Manager (CHTM) within 18 months or Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) within 18 months Education: Bachelor\'s Degree in Biomedical Engineering or Bachelor\'s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor\'s Degree in Related Field Work Experience: Biomedical service - 5 years Leadership - 3 years Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Oversight: Manage the enterprise-wide biomedical engineering teams and provide direction, mentorship, and support to ensure consistent, high-quality services across Carle Health. Develop and implement a unified biomedical engineering strategy aligned with the organization\'s mission, goals and objectives; ensure a cohesive approach to medical equipment management and technology deployment. Collaborations: Work with leadership, clinical teams, Information Technology, and other departments; set priorities and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency, patient safety, and clinical outcomes. Equipment Management: Oversee lifecycle management of all medical equipment (acquisition, installation, maintenance, calibration, replacement) across the enterprise; ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and clinical workflows to optimize patient care and cost efficiency. Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations governing medical devices, patient safety standards, data security standards, and accreditation requirements; participate in risk management and cybersecurity strategies. Operational Efficiency and Process Improvement: Drive standardization and best practices to improve uptime, workflows, and overall clinical and operational efficiency; participate in capital purchases review to meet clinical needs. Staff Management and Development: Lead, mentor, recruit, train, and develop biomedical engineering staff; foster continuous improvement and technical excellence; provide performance evaluations and opportunities for ongoing education and certification. Collaborations and Communication: Serve as the primary contact for biomedical engineering issues, ensure seamless integration with patient care and operations, and communicate status, compliance issues, and improvement initiatives to leadership. Budget and Financial Management: Develop and manage the enterprise biomedical engineering budget, optimize resource allocation, and identify cost-saving opportunities; oversee capital planning for medical equipment purchases. Innovation and Technology Integration: Stay ahead of emerging technologies, evaluate and implement new technologies and systems, and collaborate with leadership to align technology with clinical needs. The compensation range for this position is $47.28 per hour - $81.32 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting.
