Overview
TUTOR – PART-TIME – BUSINESS (GRANT FUNDED) Wilbur Wright College, part of the City Colleges of Chicago, seeks a part-time business tutor to provide tutoring and instructional support to help students improve academic capabilities, promote independent learning, and progress academically. A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related field or equivalent technical certifications and training are required. Responsibilities
Provides academic assistance and tutoring to students on an individual or group basis across a wide range of subjects in an academic or occupational area. Tutors students to deepen comprehension of course materials and improve understanding of work assignments to boost academic success. Crafts tutoring plans addressing tutee strengths and weaknesses; motivates students and builds confidence. Imparts learning strategies, including study skills, organization, time management, and effective note-taking; helps develop better study habits. Schedules tutoring sessions at Wright’s Academic Support Center based on student requests. Assists with problem solving and applying critical thinking within a given discipline. Promotes positive attitudes toward learning, builds self-confidence, and reduces anxiety related to academic work. Provides ongoing communication with students, instructors, and academic advisors regarding progress; maintains tutoring activity records and conducts periodic assessments as required. May conduct academic skill reviews and lead workshops on academic skills. Embedded Tutor
Supports the classroom instructor as an embedded tutor, engaging students and monitoring comprehension in the classroom. Meets with instructors to discuss lesson plans, review feedback, and assess student progress and challenges. Conducts in-class presentations on strategies to improve academic capabilities, including study and note-taking skills, reading comprehension, and writing skills. Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a field related to the tutoring subject OR equivalent technical certifications and training. Specific additional requirements may apply depending on the assignment area. Completion of tutoring certification preferred. Experience in teaching or tutoring at the postsecondary level is strongly preferred. Experience in a large urban community college environment is highly desirable. Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); proficiency in the tutoring subject area. Knowledge of effective tutoring techniques and strategies; ability to improve students’ study skills. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; strong organizational and time management skills; strong problem-solving abilities. Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment; ability to motivate students to succeed. Special Requirements
Seeking candidate(s) to tutor in-person. Telework arrangements may be considered based on student need and/or course modality for embedded online/remote classes. Salary and Benefits
Salary Range: $21.31 - $24.59 Salary determined by the applicable collective bargaining agreement and the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
