Senior Underwriter/Executive Underwriter, Excess Casualty
The Markel Specialty Risk Management Excess Casualty division is seeking a Senior Underwriter / Executive Underwriter to review contract wordings, meet and negotiate with clients and brokers and build relationships. This role will develop new and renewal business, in accordance with underwriting authority grant and underwriting guidelines.
Responsibilities
Promote, cultivate and grow profitable excess casualty underwriting and reinsurance strategies
Manage assigned larger and more important agents/brokers
Consistently achieve budgeted financial results (premium, loss ratio, retention, commissions, pricing, new business and expense management) through superior service, renewal retention and responsiveness to new submissions
Consider different approaches towards risks to maximize profitability (e.g., pricing, endorsements, limits)
Participate on projects having an impact on the business
Promote Markel’s brand in the excess casualty product line and serve as the authority on technical excess casualty product line issues
Open to regular visits to agents (20%)
Technical Skills/Knowledge/Experience
Extensive progressive Excess Casualty Underwriting expertise, marketing and sales acumen and executive leadership in excess casualty risk management
Desire and ability to enhance Markel’s position in the Bermuda excess casualty marketplace through external engagement and communication
Proven expertise in working in a matrixed environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills that contribute to product line clarity
High level understanding of worldwide P&C and Specialty (re)insurance classes
Ability to work in Markel's Bermuda
