Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, Neurosurgery (San Francisco, CA)
We are seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join the Neurosurgery team in San Francisco, CA. The role involves patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and delivery of medical care in collaboration with a supervising physician. The PA/NP will operate within the full scope of licensure and provide direct patient care, patient education, and care transitions across office, hospital, emergency, and perioperative settings. The position follows ambulatory and inpatient procedures, protocols, and policies regulated by the State of California Physician Assistant Practice Act. Responsibilities
Perform patient assessments: obtain medical history, review records, conduct physical exams, document findings, and report deviations to the attending physician. Provide health care services under the direction of a physician. Examine patients, compile medical data, and include health history and exam results. Administer or order diagnostic tests and interpret results. Develop and implement patient management plans and document progress; assist in continuity of care. Instruct and counsel patients on therapeutic regimens, growth and development, family planning, and health maintenance. Perform therapeutic procedures (e.g., injections, immunizations) and manage infections as delegated. Administrative Responsibilities
Communicate with patients, physicians, and staff in oral and written form. Provide health education and counseling; accurately document patient encounters. Generate quality assessments and reports; maintain continuity of care with other providers. Coordinate access to community resources for appropriate medical and psychosocial management. Performance and Process Improvement
Identify and contribute to performance improvement activities. Support process improvements aligned with organizational priorities. Contribute to clinical pathways and order sets; collect improvement data and assist with related studies. Speciality Specific Duties
PERIOPERATIVE: Provide first/second assist responsibilities as permitted; assist with positioning, prep, hemostasis, suturing, wound care, and instrument handling under surgeon direction. LIVER TRANSPLANT: Perform procedures such as central venous access under supervision; conduct thoracentesis, paracentesis, wound debridement, arthrocentesis, lumbar puncture, drain management, chest tube/removal as appropriate; assist with transplantation-related procedures. Education:
Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program Licensures & Certifications:
PA-Physician Assistant; CSRC (DEA) may be required depending on role; BLS for Healthcare Providers Experience:
2 years of recent relevant experience preferred Department-specific Credentials:
ACLS where applicable; other listed certifications per department Skills and Knowledge
Knowledge of patient care guidelines and documentation; medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology Experience with electronic health records (EPIC or equivalent) Strong communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills; ability to lead and mentor We Offer / About Sutter West Bay Medical Group
