Certified Teacher Assistant Capital Region, NY Fusco Personnel is recruiting for a Certified Teacher Assistant to join a respected educational program in the Capital Region, NY. The Teacher Assistant will collaborate closely with the classroom teacher to support the academic, emotional, and social development of students in a specialized learning environment. This role is ideal for an individual who is passionate about working with children who have unique learning and behavioral needs, and who thrives in a structured, team-oriented, and therapeutic educational setting. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Collaboration & Classroom Support: Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized educational programs based on each student’s learning plan. Support classroom instruction, behavior management, and student engagement. Maintain a structured, positive, and inclusive classroom environment. Provide supervision and direction to students throughout the school day, including during non-classroom activities. Communicate student progress, challenges, and recommendations to the classroom teacher and care team. Substitute for the classroom teacher as needed (up to one school day per week). Direct Student Interaction: Provide instructional support and coaching to help students develop academic, social, and emotional skills. Utilize therapeutic and de-escalation techniques to manage classroom behavior and ensure student safety. Collect data and maintain accurate documentation related to student progress and behavioral goals. Supervise and support students during transitions, outdoor activities, and meal times. Professional Growth & Team Participation: Participate actively in team meetings, staff development sessions, and training opportunities. Contribute to a collaborative and positive workplace culture focused on student success. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood, Human Services, or related field preferred. New York State Level-1 Teaching Assistant Certification (or eligibility to obtain within 90 days of hire) required. Prior experience working with children, particularly in special education or therapeutic settings, strongly preferred. Strong interpersonal, communication, and classroom management skills. Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress or crisis situations. Experience with Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) or willingness to complete certification training. Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Compensation Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience.
