Description: As an integral part of the clinical care team, the Patient Care Associate is responsible for patient care and support activities promoting patient-focused care. The Patient Care Associate supports the registered nurse in various patient care activities. These activities include assisting patients with daily living activities, collecting specimens, and performing procedures. Maintaining a safe and clean environment is also essential. Other duties will be assigned as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Performs and records vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respirations. Documents intake and output and other data as assigned. Obtains patients' ratings on pain scales as a fifth vital sign in all areas except pediatrics. Performs clinical procedures, including specimen collection and venipuncture. Assists registered nurses by setting up for selected procedures and providing needed support. Helps patients with daily living activities like feeding, bathing, and toileting. Orients patients to the clinical environment. Assists patients with ambulation and all levels of mobilization. Facilitates dietary functions by managing patient trays and food menus. Maintains a safe, clean environment, ensuring comfortable patient movements. Conducts one-to-one observations or close observations for patient safety. Maintains isolation statuses for patients as directed by registered nurses. Performs scheduled rounding on patients, focusing on comfort and addressing needs. Documents rounding activities in designated logs. Utilizes communication systems according to established protocols. Maintains a respectful environment, promoting sensitivity to cultural diversity. Values each patient's unique needs and beliefs and incorporates these into care delivery.

Shared Duties and Responsibilities: Greets visitors and answers telephones promptly and courteously. Provides information and escorts visitors as necessary. Answers patient call systems and refers calls to appropriate staff. Removes trash and reports physical plant issues to management. Transports patients to stretchers or wheelchairs as required. Delivers and collects trays at the bedside. Operates the pneumatic tube system when required.

Additional Responsibilities: Strips units and performs emergency clean-ups. Handles emergency transport and discharge bedmaking. Updates communication boards or discharge logs. Assembles medical records and updates admission/transfer/discharge systems. Maintains supplies and care of equipment.
