LIBRARY TECHNICAL SERVICES ASSISTANT
Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Technical Services Supervisor, the Library Technical Services Assistant manages a wide range of tasks related to the library's collection. This includes ordering materials and performing all aspects of cataloging for various materials like video games, and fiction. Additionally, this role provides support at public service desks, handling circulation duties and assisting patrons. The assistant works with a high degree of independence, consulting with their supervisor as needed.
Responsibilities:
Orders circulating materials for the library, using both online and traditional vendor sources. Independently searches for alternative vendors if material is not available from standard sources. Catalogs and processes materials such as video games, and all fiction materials. Ensures that item records are attached to the correct bibliographic records, performs original cataloging and creates brief records when needed, and makes changes or deletes records from the database as necessary. Receives orders and uploads invoices using NOBLE's Evergreen acquisitions system and works with purchase orders to create temporary bibliographic MARC records to catalog items after they are ordered. Processes materials as necessary, preparing them for shelving in the collection. This includes set-up for all materials, creating labels, and packaging. Performs all duties of a Library Assistant, including circulation tasks, handling phone requests, and reserving materials in our computer network. Must be able to lift up to twenty pounds and move a full library cart to different locations inside the library building. Performs other duties of a similar nature and complexity as directed or as necessary for the efficient operation of the library. Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree with two years of similar library experience. Attention to detail and the capacity to work independently are crucial. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
