Must-Have: - Certified Sterile Processor (HSPA or CBSPD) - Minimum of 3 years of experience as Sterile Processing Technician - Large hospital experience (500 beds or more) - Travel experience (6 months) - Two professional references from previous positions
Description: The Department of Sterile Processing is a state-of-the-art facility for instrument processing and sterilization. The Sterile Processing Department assists in the decontamination, high-level disinfection, assembling, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments, trays, and pans. These functions are performed using advanced decontamination and sterilization equipment. Instruments and trays are tracked by a bar code system.
Responsibilities include: Inspecting, assembling, packaging, and sterilizing surgical instrument pans, procedural trays, and surgical case carts. Selecting methods of packaging and sterilization while consulting with management as needed. Examining surgical instrumentation for cleanliness and proper assembly and function. Assembling instrument sets to ensure appropriate number and type of instruments per protocols. Handling instruments appropriately to ensure complete sterilization. Completing count and supply sheets to document contents of trays. Following procedures to package and wrap trays and instruments to guarantee sterilization. Operating steam sterilizers in accordance with established procedures. Checking time, pressure, and temperature gauges frequently to maintain proper levels. Loading and unloading sterilizers, placing items on shelves for distribution. Performing simple maintenance of sterilizers such as cleaning drain baskets. Verifying sterility through culture preparation, reviewing test packs processed, and interpreting results. Documenting performance for required records. Checking and adjusting medical equipment to ensure instruments and equipment operate correctly prior to issuing. Sending equipment that does not meet specifications to the appropriate area for repair. Decontaminating surgical instruments following established procedures to prevent cross-contamination. Setting up decontamination equipment for operation, cleaning, and disinfecting upon shift completion. Handling infectious waste and linen according to established protocols. Receiving and storing supplies from vendors and hospital areas while documenting receipts and reporting discrepancies. Maintaining inventory par levels and documenting orders for surgical supplies. Maintaining records of equipment inventory, servicing frequency, and referral for repairs. Responsible for quality assurance checks on sterile supplies and instruments. Conducting daily checks on stock levels, sterility dates, and accuracy of procedure carts. Responsible for critical documentation such as biological indicators and sterilizer load sheets.
