Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, provides prompt and courteous food service to restaurant customers.
  • Greets and takes food and drink orders, serves orders, and accommodates special needs/requests.
  • Remains attentive to customers throughout the dining experience, adhering to service standards.
  • Completes opening and closing sidework, restocking and cleaning duties.
  • Memorizes menu items, recipes and daily specials to answer questions and make recommendations.
  • Maintains cleanliness standards in restaurant, waitstation and kitchen service area.
  • Controls guest checks by following check-use procedures and documents required information as orders are taken and processed.
  • Receives proper payment from guests and ensures accuracy of guest checks and payment methods.
  • Attends pre-meal and departmental meetings to enhance communications and knowledge.
  • Responds to customer inquiries and comments in person and by phone with timely information to provide quality service.
  • Presents a clean and professional appearance at all times.
  • Maintains a friendly, cheerful and courteous demeanor at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Education/Formal Training

High school education or equivalent.

Experience

Previous experience in similar position of 3 months or longer.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Must have basic knowledge of customer service principles, the food server function and restaurant and kitchen operations.
  • Must know standard cash-handling procedures.
  • Must be fluent in oral and written English.
  • Must have vision ability to clearly see detailed guest checks, computer print outs, written instructions and observe the restaurant in dimly lit conditions.
  • Must have manual coordination to punch buttons, grasp items, and balance and carry trays.

  • Lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying up to 50 lbs; trays, carts, tables, chairs, and small equipment up to 75% of the time.
  • Balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching and handling.
  • Mobility to travel up to 300 feet regularly during the shift.
  • Continuous standing during preparation and service hours.
  • Moderate hearing to hear customers and communicate with staff; excellent vision for product preparation.
  • Ability to read, follow verbal and written instructions, and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks in crowded and noisy environments.
