The Opportunity

Use your skills to perform varied and responsible specialized and confidential legal secretarial duties; compose and prepare correspondence; provide legal administrative support to attorneys, court officers, or law enforcement personnel; assist with calendaring and scheduling; and perform related duties as assigned.

The Selected Candidate Will Have An Opportunity To

  • Perform general and legal secretarial duties related to the assigned functional area and department.
  • Draft pleadings, subpoenas, contracts, ordinances, and other related documents from notes, dictated materials, or printed materials.
  • Calendar and schedule court dates, meetings, and appointments for attorneys and other personnel; file or arrange for filing of legal briefs with the court.
  • Process a variety of legal agreements and contracts following instructions from attorneys or other personnel.
  • Prepare and review transmittal correspondence for signature; ensure materials are complete and comply with policies and English usage.
  • Collect information from multiple sources and prepare routine reports as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Human Resources will assess your application to determine minimal qualifications. The following are representative requirements:

  • Legal Secretary I: High school diploma; two (2) years of general secretarial and administrative support experience.
  • Legal Secretary II: High school diploma; one (1) year of legal secretarial experience supporting attorneys, court officers, or other law enforcement personnel, or one (1) year of experience equivalent to Legal Secretary I.

Licenses And Certifications

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment and a satisfactory driving record.

Additional Information

The County is recruiting for Legal Secretary I/II - Extra Help. This recruitment will establish a list for filling current and future limited term, full-time, part-time, and extra help vacancies for at least three months. Extra help employees may be transitioned into regular employment where possible; however, they do not receive benefits or paid leaves but accrue sick leave as allowed by law.
