Overview

Position Title: Custodian

Position Type: $30,312.92 Non-Exempt

Position Hours: Full-time; Monday – Friday

Length of Term/Employment: 242 workday schedule / At-will

Reports to: Campus Principal and Region Custodial Supervisor

Position Mission: Follow routine cleaning to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.

Notes: Referrals may increase interviewing chances. Locations include Brownsville, TX.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Graduate or GED preferred.
• Must have the ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning of several types of floors and spaces.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment.
• Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies.
• Ability to read, write, and speak in the English language.

Job Duties

• Cleaning: Maintain a cleaning schedule that includes floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
• Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and playgrounds as needed.
• Safety: Assist with opening and closing buildings each school day; follow procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities; check exit doors and panic hardware during occupancy; inspect cleaning equipment for safety and efficiency; operate tools/equipment according to safety procedures; follow safety procedures and techniques (lifting, climbing, etc.); report unsafe conditions to supervisor.
• Charter & Community Responsibilities: Convey mission, illustrate understanding of charter/community needs, raise community and parent involvement, actively participate in student recruitment efforts.
• Charter Atmosphere: Encourage a constructive climate for learning; promote fairness of students and staff from all cultural backgrounds; communicate effectively to promote Jubilee culture.
• Equipment Used: Buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaners, MVP vacuum, shampooer, backpack vacuum, vacuum cleaner, high-speed burnisher.
• Working Conditions: Frequent walking and standing; climbing; heavy lifting; work indoors/outdoors on various surfaces; exposure to hot/cold temperatures, dust, and chemicals.
