Overview

Responsible for performing daily housekeeping and sanitation activities. Incumbent must supervise trustees and inmates on work details and conduct outdoor sanitation and litter collection activities. Duties also include reporting found or potential safety, maintenance, or non-compliance issues. This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that their work area is clean, organized, safe and presentable in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Performs effective housekeeping and sanitation activities to ensure that facility areas are clean, organized, and presentable.
  • Supervises and directs the trustees in the proper performance of their daily tasks while maintaining security, safety, and control of the inmate/offender pursuant to applicable FMJS regulations and in accordance with agency policies.
  • Supervises contractors while they are working in the building.
  • Maintains an accurate count of all inmates/offenders assigned to the work detail and completes and disseminates required documentation concerning assignments in a timely manner per agency policies/procedures.
  • Determines type and quantity of supplies/equipment required, and submits requisition requests for authorization and processing.
  • Ensures that restrooms are clean, sanitized, and in good working order.
  • Vacuums carpet inbuilding.
  • Ensures municipal grounds are free of litter and debris.
  • Empties all trash bins, compiles trash in a central location, and readies for pickup.
  • Wet mops non-carpeted areas, removes excess water/fluids, and posts caution signs to warn of slippery conditions.
  • Supervises the washing of windows to ensure a clear exterior view.
  • Ensures that non-carpeted areas are waxed as required or per schedule, and that areas are buffed approximately 3 to 4 days after waxing in line with policy.
  • Stores flammable materials in approved containers and areas per policy and regulations.
  • Works effectively with colleagues and other agency personnel to maximize output and service levels.
  • Responds to personnel grievances/complaints in accordance with agency policies and applicable laws.
  • Inspects and replaces worn/damaged ceiling tiles and light bulbs when needed.
  • Processes incoming/outgoing documents and files in a timely manner per supervisory direction and policy.
  • Participates in cross-training and assists coworkers as needed.
  • Reports maintenance, safety, and non-compliance findings, hazards, and incidents to appropriate personnel or department.
  • Completes assignments, special projects, and budgetary requirements as directed.
  • Adheres to leave and attendance policies and informs the supervisor about illness, overtime, and timesheets.
  • Regularly checks assigned mailbox, phone, PowerDMS, and email; responds promptly and professionally.
  • Notifies chain of command of noteworthy items and responds to supervision and feedback appropriately.
  • Conducts themselves professionally and courteously when engaging with the public and colleagues.
  • Cultivates positive working relationships in line with agency policies.
  • Demonstrates respect for cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the public and coworkers.
  • Participates in job-specific training and may perform minor repairs for office equipment as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education, Experience And Requirements

  • High school diploma or its equivalent required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Speak and understand the English language.
  • Driver's License (or authorized equivalents) may be required at various steps in the application process:

  • GED or High School Diploma and sealed transcripts
  • FDLE Authority for Release (notarized)

Supplemental Information

Salary is negotiable for full-time positions prior to initial hire based on verified experience up to step five of the assigned pay grade. Benefits for full-time positions include Florida Retirement System, health/life/dental/vision, ancillary insurance, college reimbursement, and more.
