Volunteer Accountant (Part-Time, Remote-Friendly) – Make a Difference with Your Skills
Estimated Time Commitment: ~10 hours/month
Are you an experienced accountant or bookkeeper looking to give back to a meaningful cause? We’re a small but impactful nonprofit seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Volunteer Accountant to help keep our financial operations running smoothly. In just a few hours each month, you can make a huge impact by supporting the behind-the-scenes work that powers real change in the community.
What You’ll Do
Help with accounting tasks that support day-to-day operations and long-term sustainability, including:
- Posting daily payments and donor contributions
- Creating and managing vendor and donor records
- Performing monthly bank reconciliations
- Preparing month-end financial reports
- Reviewing payroll creation and staying updated on federal/state payroll guidelines
- Onboarding/offboarding employees in payroll systems
- Setting up state tax accounts (income tax, unemployment, worker’s comp, etc.)
- Assisting with vendor negotiations and overdue payment resolutions
- Collaborating on custom invoicing processes for our hotline and grants
- Preparing W-2s and 1099s
- Generating year-end donor giving reports
- Assisting with year-end close and prepping documentation for 990/990EZ filings
- Reporting to ED for day-to-day operations and working with Board Treasurer to provide needed information

Qualifications
- Background in accounting, bookkeeping, or nonprofit finance preferred
- Comfortable with QuickBooks
- Familiarity with nonprofit financial requirements a plus (e.g., 990 filings)
- Detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated
- Willing to collaborate and communicate with our small staff
