Overview Communicate diet orders for each meal to department Data Center. Implement diet orders, check to be sure there is a tray for each patient with the correct diet order. Obtain trays from tray line for new admissions or patients whose diets have consistently advanced in diet orders. Prepare and serve trays; prepare and serve coffee/tea; add ice cream/yogurt from galley freezer, garnish tray and remove all wrappings from tray and assist patients in opening milk, juice, and condiments. Collect dirty trays. Give patients menu selection sheet, sheet with daily specials and explain how patient is to select food. Assist patients unable to complete selection sheet independently.

Responsibilities

Assist with nourishment and tray assembly, including coffee/tea service and dessert items; garnish trays and clear wrappings; assist patients with opening drinks and condiments.

Collect dirty trays and manage tray retrieval for new admissions or diet changes.

Provide patients with menu selection sheets and daily specials; explain selection process and assist those unable to complete independently.

Maintain excellent customer service skills and clean galley after meals; perform designated cleaning on specific days.

Inventory and order nourishments and supplements as needed; rotate perishable items and ensure items are passed to patients or added to trays as appropriate.

Maintain professional relationships with co-workers and unit staff; communicate dietary or eating ability information to the clinical dietitian.

May orient or train new employees within the department; provide care aligned with department policies and patient age-related needs.

Adhere to safety and infection control practices; maintain ability to lift 25-30 lbs and stand for extended periods; follow procedures and exercise sound judgment.

Qualifications

Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Basic computer and math skills.

Food service needs, diet modification, and religious food practices for sick patients; capable of implementing exemplary customer service skills.

Food service experience desirable; on-the-job training typically 1 week.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills; ability to provide compassionate care and attention to detail.

Must be able to lift 25-30 lbs and stand for extended periods; motor coordination and ability to organize work and meet deadlines.

Ability to understand and follow procedures; ability to use judgment and solve problems independently; basic computer proficiency.

N95 mask required.
