Overview Job Summary: Serves as a project manager for the design and construction of City projects including planning, design, bid preparation, cost estimation, and monitoring of construction compliance.

Job Description The Senior Architect manages, oversees, and supervises the design, construction, and related architectural functions for the development and delivery of large scale Capital Improvement projects for the City. Serves as the key design professional for buildings, systems, signage, utility requirements, and ADA issues for projects across the City.

Essential Functions

Directs, oversees, and supervises architectural design process on both renovation and new construction projects; manages design consultant selection, contracting process, and compilation of accurate stakeholder requirements.

Reviews, checks, and evaluates designs for code compliance and maintains documents for permit process; designs and implements project schedules while protecting original scope of work and budget; adjusts scope, schedule, and budget as approved during design process.

Manages construction and implementation process on both renovation and new construction projects; coordinates and issues construction documents for public bid process; manages City of Dallas approval process for award of construction contract, construction scope, schedule, and budget in partnership with design consultants.

Reviews and approves consultant invoices and construction pay applications; confirms progress achieved on both design and construction to support payment; coordinates internal approval process and maintains audit-ready records on both design and construction contracts; manages close-out and turnover of projects for occupancy.

Serves as professional resource to tenants, design consultants, and developers on non-City owned projects scoped, designed, and built on City of Dallas property; handles requests for information on initiating, obtaining departmental approvals, obtaining City building permits, and satisfying close-out and turnover requirements.

Manages, oversees, and directs the work of subordinates, including interns; monitors and checks timesheets, work product, performance evaluations, and understanding of department responsibilities in design, construction, project acceptance, close-out, and occupancy.

Drafts, prepares, and presents reports for project scope, schedule, budget, and status.

Serves as internal resource for contracting, accounts payable, architectural archives; coordinates with internal stakeholders on emergency management, security, IT, operations, maintenance, accessibility, and facilities management in support of architectural projects.

Attends and conducts training seminars to ensure continuing education and licensing requirements are up to date for Architects performing work in the City.

Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge And Skills

Knowledge of architecture design and implementation.

Knowledge of the building and construction process.

Knowledge of regulatory and legal issues related to building design and construction.

Knowledge of design systems and software.

Knowledge of project management.

Ability to supervise, direct, manage and oversee subordinate staff ensuring training, certifications, and quality work.

Ability to determine code requirements, design, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system design.

Ability to manage budget, grant, and bond programs.

Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited university.

Experience: Four (4) years experience as a licensed architect including familiarity with construction cost estimating, CAD drafting, project administration, project scheduling, building materials and methods of construction.

Equivalency: Master's degree (or higher) in Architecture from an accredited university plus two (2) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.

Licenses: Valid driver's license with good driving record. Current License issued by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners OR architect license from other state(s) with a certificate from the National Council of Architectural Registration Board.

Other Requirements: Must pass Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check.

Salary Range $85,183.59 - $106,479.49. The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
