Shift Notes: Nights: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM: 12 Hrs Weekend Requirements: Every Other Weekend The ED/SSU RN functions primarily in direct patient care and demonstrates “competent” clinical practice with a variety of patients. The RN in the ED/SSU works as part of a team with a common goal of offering patient centered, timely care in a safe and friendly environment. The RN in this position offers individualized, compassionate care to emergency department patients, observation patients, and outpatients. The RN acts to initiate immediate care in the absence of a physician, in life threatening situations. The RN pleasantly provides nonjudgmental care for the acutely ill, as well as the non-acute patient. This position requires the ability to perform multiple procedures, utilizing both complex and simple nursing skills. This position requires assisting the physician and other members of the team to provide relationship-based patient-centered care. The RN provides comfort, both physically and psychologically, to patients, their families, and visitors utilizing the Relationship Based Care Model. Registered nurses shall provide patient-specific discharge and follow-up instructions to the patient and family using appropriate language for the patient and family’s psychosocial intellect. The RN must be able to relay appropriate orders from the physician for pre-hospital care in a friendly and respectful manner. The RN in this role works with multiple types of sophisticated equipment and handles various types of patients in a friendly and frequently stressful environment.
40%* The RN as part of a multidisciplinary team, maintains a friendly customer oriented attitude at all times. It is expected that all team members will work together to provide the best possible care to the Facility’s staff, patients, families, visitors, community members, and any other person that is encountered while representing the facility. It is expected that at all times the RN will treat every person they encounter with non-judgmental kindness, compassion, respect and relationship-based care. 30%* Regularly assesses patients’ needs and provides skilled nursing services as prescribed by the physician’s authorized plan of care and accepted standards of evidence-based nursing practice. Provides direct patient care including medication administration, treatments, education, call lights, assisting with transfers, responding to alarms, and other duties as assigned. 20%* Evaluates effectiveness of treatment plan and makes suggestions or participates in updating/revising the treatment plan in collaboration with other team members, utilizing current information to improve patient care. 10%* The RN is knowledgeable and compliant with all local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines. The RN maintains knowledge of the facility and ED/SSU-specific policies and procedures relating to the care provided, guides patient teaching, and maintains professional nursing standards.
