Overview

The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” The AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). Work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates and provide leadership. The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager position is a progression from the AIT position and includes additional high-level duties that are specific to that position, though the majority of job duties and responsibilities are shared.

Sales Generation and Guest Service

Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service to each Guest.

Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise and help locate or obtain merchandise based on Guest needs.

Anticipate and fulfill Guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobe experience.

Demonstrate product knowledge and sales education, sharing knowledge with Team.

Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices.

Contribute to personal sales and support Teammates’ presentations using the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG).

Achieve personal sales-per-hour, average sales and total net sales goals set by Store Management.

Provide legendary service in top areas: Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and the register area.

Know exchange and return procedures and leverage opportunities for showmanship.

Use SPG daily to accomplish goals and meet performance standards in Buckle business builders and guest loyalty programs.

Investigate and navigate how to expand Guest selection through Inventory Manager, advanced product search, iPad apps, etc.

Build and maintain good Guest relationships to develop a client-based business.

Lead by example with showmanship, customer service and attentiveness.

Recognize and communicate Guest Levels with the Team.

Ask business-driven and showmanship questions to Managers, Team Leaders and Teammates; be coachable and open to feedback.

Perform leadership actions consistently, whether or not the Manager is present.

Plan sales goals with Store Manager and take ownership of store’s sales performance (Sales, Average sale, Business builders, Denim).

Show passion for product education and showmanship to create results.

Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development

Identify recruiting opportunities using Jobs & Careers Cards, referrals, and Teammate Recommend.

Coach and build relationships through Guest Loyalty and Guest Preferred programs.

Develop skills and assist in leading, directing, motivating and educating new Teammates to meet Buckle’s standards daily.

Maintain a positive floor culture and demonstrate professional dress code and leadership.

Participate in daily setup, training, impact, and review using the Performance Tracker.

Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks set by Store Management.

Demonstrate Denim showmanship and fit card coaching to teams and Guests.

Execute actions from department calendars and track on the Weekly Delegation Worksheet.

Lead segments and involve Guests with product; update fellow leaders and Team.

Ask for and remember Guest names; understand and show merchandise for both Gals and Guys.

Partner with Store Manager to focus education and delegate weekly priorities; assist Recruitment of store staffing needs.

Explain pay and Buckle Benefits; maintain contact lists and identify top talent.

Train on Leadership playbook and ensure accountability for all characteristics.

SPG Teammate/leader training shifts; train on non-sales positions as needed.

Execute actions with changing sales focuses and identify training needs for Teammates.

Visual Merchandise Management

Own and influence product through zone ownership, assign Zones and projects to Teammates with learning goals.

Execute and demonstrate new tools and videos for zone ownership; know and execute questions.

Delegate, demonstrate, and review all 4 zones with the Store Manager.

Ensure Teammates follow Visual Standards, Visual Library, and Weekly Visual Checklist with urgency and accountability.

Recognize merchandising opportunities from freight to floor and lifecycle of product; communicate recommendations to the Store Manager.

Provide informative store tours and keep the sales floor sized with new freight appropriately displayed.

Show ability to implement changes to improve store performance via the Performance Tracker.

Anticipate product changes and act to improve visual results; maintain visual standards on floor and backroom.

Operations

Work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holiday periods as needed.

Utilize planning tools and complete Opening and Closing Checklists.

Monitor security risks and theft; follow Loss Prevention guidelines including bag/purse checks.

Execute and teach all Point of Sale (POS) procedures; handle corporate communications professionally.

Maintain a positive attitude when dealing with Guests or Teammates and follow all policies regarding payments, returns, exchanges and Loss Prevention practices.

Navigate and use tools on the home page; guide non-sales positions.

Complete scheduled shifts and cover shifts when needed; keep a clean, organized, and shoppable store.

Provide feedback on merchandise handling; report policy violations confidentially as needed.

Adhere to Buckle Code of Ethics and all policies, procedures, and handbooks.

Complete new hire paperwork promptly; perform planning (week/month/year) and oversee opening/closing checklists.

Complete markdowns, pulls, freight, recalls, RTVs; coordinate with Corporate Office departments to support store operations.

Maintain inventory of supplies and respond to emergencies in Store Manager’s absence per company guidelines.

Supervisory and Leadership

Comfortable giving and receiving feedback; support Leadership and store growth.

Maintain professional relationships with Teammates; conduct daily interviews as needed for Team development and growth.

Problem-solve, stay self-educated on company tools, and share knowledge.

Understand Buckle Commitment to Success and travel to cover other stores as needed.

Manage schedule changes professionally; fulfill mission through high levels of customer service and positive team spirit.

Handle special projects and other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities Assists the Store Manager in supervising.

Education and/or Experience High school diploma or GED; or 1-3 months related retail experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
