Overview
Department: Gift Planning Salary: Commensurate with Experience/Education The University of Houston System seeks an experienced professional to lead gift and estate planning efforts and the related fundraising team. This leader will join the principal gifts team and report to the Associate Vice President, Strategic Initiatives and Leadership Gifts. The successful candidate will be evaluated for a Chief Development Officer or Executive Director role, depending upon experience and portfolio expertise. The Chief Development Officer/Executive Director will need to serve as a superb leader and manager, with an ability to motivate, inspire and manage a team of development professionals as well as a group of dedicated Campaign volunteers. Responsibilities
Supervise, lead, motivate and evaluate a high-caliber team in order to assure consistency, quality, accountability and performance metrics are achieved. Build strong and mutually beneficial relationships among the Deans, Academic leadership, Advancement leadership, faculty and staff. Organizes and implements the Development efforts for the overall Unit including multiple Colleges and/or Programs. Manage a portfolio of the Unit's top donors and prospective donors with responsibility to meet an annual personal fundraising goal. Motivate and inspire team to aggressively grow the pipeline of donors to fully support a robust major gifts program within the Unit. Ensure the Unit's combined, annual team goal is achieved and monitor closely for completion of overall Campaign goal. Provide oversight for the Unit's Campaign Volunteer Council along with support as needed to individual College volunteer groups within the Unit, focused to ensure each volunteer has an engagement plan that includes responsibilities with accountability metrics for fundraising. Work in close collaboration with the Associate Vice President, Development in creating fundraising internal and external processes as related to team's work, identifying and implementing best practices to support a comprehensive, winning major gifts fundraising program. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications
Requires application of advanced principles, techniques and theory in a professional discipline or thorough general business management knowledge. This level typically requires a directly job-related master’s degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field related to the work. Requires a minimum of ten (10) years of job-related experience, with at least five (5) years in a management role. Additional duties to be added to posting
The Chief Development Officer or Executive Director – Gift and Estate Planning develops the overall University System strategy for gift and estate planning, and directs and manages the planned giving program for significant campaign success. Develops policies and guidelines to govern planned giving activities, ensuring compliance with legal and tax regulations. Creates and implements marketing strategies, with internal and external partners and vendors. Identifies, cultivates, and solicits current and prospective donors, including a personal portfolio of principal gift prospects. Plans, coordinates, and implements planned giving strategies with donors and development officers to structure lifetime, blended and deferred gift arrangements. Provides technical expertise, guidance and supervision to System staff on estate planning options. Collaborates with finance, legal and advancement teams to enhance gift planning operations and support fundraising efforts. Maintains current knowledge of gift planning methods. Promotes positive donor relations and stewardship. Develops and manages goals and strategies to target and assess planned gifts.
