$2,249.00 Per Month; ($26,988.00 Annually) Position Summary:

The Community Service Specialist serves as a visible security presence on the campus and within its buildings as assigned, performing security services such as patrolling campus on foot, by bike or vehicle to protect campus community and visitors, providing public safety support and assistance to campus police, enforcing campus ordinances and parking regulations, and issuing citations. The incumbent also provides information to the University Police Department (UPD) regarding any unusual occurrences and/or activities on and around campus. Position Information (Continued)

Security Services:

Patrol campus on foot, by bike or vehicle to protect campus community and visitors from hazards such as fire, theft, vandalism, trespassing and other crimes. Assist in enforcement of campus rules and regulations, report hazardous conditions, check, open and secure campus facilities, coordinate and test campus alarm systems. Public Safety Support:

Provide back-up dispatch support, manage property and evidence, maintain records, provide training on crime prevention awareness, support drug identification programs, perform Live Scan and Ink Card fingerprinting, participate in emergency response teams, respond to emergencies, take incident/accident reports as needed. Parking Support:

Enforce parking rules, patrol lots, issue citations, sell permits, appear in court for parking citations, and direct traffic during peak hours, events, and emergencies. Campus Community Support:

Assist in logistics for campus events and emergencies, provide information to the public, offer escort and citizen assistance as needed. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications

High school level reading and writing abilities; possession of a California Driver’s License. Successful completion of a background check and the ability to attend Police Officers Standards & Training (POST) programs may be required. Knowledge of and ability to learn applicable public safety equipment and systems. High school diploma or equivalent and three to six months related experience. Working knowledge of procedures related to campus security, public safety, and parking; alarm and radio systems. Ability to detect and respond to hazardous or crime situations; observe and recall details; resolve parking and traffic problems; write clear incident reports; interact effectively with diverse individuals; handle sensitive situations with tact and confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications

At least 1 year of experience as a security officer. Dependable, trustworthy, and willing to respond to on-call needs. Uniform inspection readiness: polished, clean, and neat. Knowledge of campus operating and emergency procedures. Core competencies: collaboration; effective communication; customer focus; personal effectiveness; diversity and inclusion. Licensing/Certification

Must pass a medical examination and background check; possess a valid California Driver’s License. Must be a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act; comply with CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. Other Requirements

Must be able to work indoors and/or outdoors in a police environment; may require evenings/weekends; ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, lift, open doors, and assist officers; ability to react to emergencies; communicate effectively; interact with a diverse population. Pre-Employment/Eligibility
