The Program Director is a key leadership role at WellStrong, responsible for ensuring high-quality, evidence-based peer support and wellness programming that reflects the organization’s mission to support individuals in recovery from substance use disorder through fitness, mindfulness, and connection.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this individual will also work closely with the Development Director to ensure programs meet strategic goals and grant requirements. The Program Director will oversee daily programming operations, manage staff and instructors, and represent WellStrong in the community.
This position requires a flexible schedule, as some events and programming take place during evenings and weekends. Weekly hours are based on the needs of the organization. The Program Director will work 40 hours per week, with a minimum of 32 hours in person between WellStrong’s Falmouth location and the BRIDGE Center in Barnstable (with more time in Falmouth preferred in the first year to learn staff and programs). The remaining hours will focus on outreach, events, social media, and networking.
The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, and passionate about recovery, with the ability to lead a team, maintain consistent programming, and foster strong community relationships.
Staff
Lead onboarding for new staff, instructors, and volunteers: collect paperwork, review policies, and introduce the team.
Schedule and coordinate annual trainings, such as sexual harassment prevention, trauma-informed care, and workplace expectations.
Conduct bi-weekly check-ins with each department to provide support, updates, and feedback.
Host a monthly all-staff meeting (Zoom or hybrid) to ensure maximum attendance.
Review staff and instructor schedules daily to ensure program coverage at all locations.
Balance time between Falmouth and the BRIDGE Center in Barnstable to support staff and maintain consistent leadership presence.
Address staff issues or absences in real time, including covering shifts when necessary.
Foster a positive, supportive work environment through consistent presence and communication.
Programs
Manage daily schedules of fitness classes, wellness workshops, and community offerings at both Falmouth and the BRIDGE Center in Barnstable.
Ensure all programs are entered accurately into WellnessLiving to maintain a live calendar on the app and website.
Train and verify staff are tracking attendance at all programs; ensure data is entered daily into WellnessLiving.
Collect member feedback quarterly and share with the Executive Director to inform programming adjustments.
Review weekly program calendars to confirm accuracy and resolve conflicts.
Confirm instructor coverage and provide needed materials for all classes.
Balance time between Falmouth and the BRIDGE Center in Barnstable to stay familiar with program needs at both locations.
Troubleshoot program issues on-site (e.g., cancellations, space conflicts, supply shortages).
Submit monthly summaries of program performance, attendance, and trends to the Executive Director.
Submit a monthly supply order list to the Executive Director to ensure programs are fully equipped.
Represent WellStrong at a minimum of three community meetings or networking events per month, including RSAC Recovery Group Meeting (monthly), Falmouth Commission on Substance Use (monthly), and Barnstable Task Force Meeting (monthly).
Maintain and expand relationships with local treatment centers and sober houses. Conduct monthly check-ins with each partner site to ensure satisfaction with programming.
Dedicate 2–5 hours per week to social media: posting on Instagram and Facebook, sharing program updates, highlighting events, and engaging with community content.
Assist in planning and coordinating staff, volunteers, and logistics for community events such as Annual Strength in Unity Recovery Month Event.
Support Development Director with annual fundraising events, including Celebrate WellStrong Gala, Annual Charter Cup Fishing Tournament, and Falmouth Road Race.
Provide monthly updates to the Executive Director and Development Director on outreach and partnership opportunities.
Encourage staff and members to attend external events and support donor activities.
Track outreach contacts and events attended for reporting purposes; provide this information to the Development Director.
Share monthly updates and photos with the Development Director for member and donor newsletters.
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years in personal recovery from substance use disorder (preferred, not required).
2+ years of experience in nonprofit, program, or team management.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Experience developing and facilitating staff onboarding and training.
Willingness to learn and contribute to social media and communications efforts.
Comfort with public speaking, outreach, and community engagement.
Tech savvy: proficient in email platforms, scheduling tools, and basic data tracking.
