As a Senior Economist, you will be a leader in Anza MI’s Risk and Analytics organization. You will play a key role in building and maintaining the organization’s economic models and research. The team uses a cloud-native technology stack to analyze mortgage and economic data to train a suite of predictive models. This suite is used by Anza MI for mortgage insurance policy pricing, capital management, loss reserving, and economic forecasting. In addition to training and developing economic models, you will work with Anza’s data scientists to operationalize and optimize the deployment of the economic models. You will have the opportunity to work in a wide range of areas within the business, learning all aspects of the mortgage insurance life cycle. What you\'ll do
Work with the VP of Modeling and Analytics to improve the performance of Anza’s cash flow and pricing models, taking ownership of key components and developing a strategy for the continual improvement of the models’ predictive performance. Develop and execute on a research roadmap to evaluate new data sources and inputs for the use of mortgage cash flow modeling. Perform market research to understand emerging trends in the overall housing market, regional markets and competitor strategy that will serve as inputs for Anza’s pricing and loss reserve models. Leverage internal and external data sources to create economic scenarios for short and long-term forecasting. Qualifications
PhD in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics or closely related field. Deep knowledge in time series econometrics and empirical macroeconomics. Prior experience with mortgage cash flow modeling for the use of asset valuation is a plus. Possesses a robust understanding of statistical methodologies, including their application to business challenges and large datasets. Effective verbal and written communications skills with both economists and non-economist audiences. At least 3 to 5 years of post graduate school work experience, preferably within the U.S. housing industry or insurance/reinsurance industry Minimum Technical Skills Proficiency with Python or R, SQL A solid understanding of Cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Databricks). Preferred skills Previous experience in a work or academic setting with Spark or PySpark What we offer
