The Director, Manufacturing plays a critical role in driving operational excellence and product quality across our manufacturing operations. This leader will oversee daily production, implement lean manufacturing practices, and foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement. By enhancing efficiency and ensuring high standards, this role directly supports Phillip Jeffries’ mission to deliver exceptional products and services to our clients. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Supply Chain and will be on-site at our Fairfield, NJ HQ 5 days per week. Responsibilities Demonstrate commitment to Phillip Jeffries’ Great & Worthy Purpose (GWP), Mission, Vision, and Values through daily leadership actions Ensure high-quality manufacturing standards that support delivering the right product, on time, and to specification Oversee the US-based manufacturing facility with a focus on improving team output and reducing lead times Apply lean principles to increase operational efficiency and foster a culture of continuous improvement Reinforce and monitor safety procedures, certifications, and training compliance for all personnel and equipment Support production continuity through backup plans and preventive measures for operational stability Lead the hiring, onboarding, and performance management of US production staff, providing coaching and development feedback Project Management – Manufacturing: Manage manufacturing projects from initiation to completion, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met Track project milestones and follow up on key deliverables to maintain schedules Build and maintain project plans in collaboration with the Vice President of Supply Chain and team leads Coordinate project updates and communicate progress with relevant stakeholders Identify project roadblocks and recommend solutions for leadership decision-making Implement process workflows at the facility level to support efficiency while maintaining quality and safety Monitor daily and weekly production schedules to ensure timely fulfillment Resolve scheduling conflicts through analysis and coordination with cross-functional teams Track manufacturing performance metrics and assist in compiling weekly and monthly reports Maintain dashboards and share relevant insights with internal teams Strategic Management: Implement lean manufacturing practices and support team members in applying problem-solving tools on the production floor Review local manufacturing workflows and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and product quality Participate in cost control initiatives and track improvements in production efficiency Provide input on equipment performance and communicate needs to leadership Plan staff deployment to align with production goals and resource availability Ensure staff are properly trained and equipped to meet production demands Analyze production data to identify opportunities for reducing waste and increasing productivity Address day-to-day operational issues and escalate systemic problems as needed Reinforce safety protocols and ensure adherence to workplace safety standards Track machinery maintenance needs and support upgrade requests Align facility-level production plans with broader business objectives Monitor industry best practices and recommend enhancements to shop floor operations Overseas Manufacturing: Track production performance and cost metrics at overseas manufacturing partners Provide input to improve efficiency and align overseas operations with growth goals Review overseas production trends and report findings to the Vice President of Supply Chain Implement systems and processes to support production consistency and cost efficiency Coordinate communication and logistics with overseas vendors to ensure timelines and expectations are met Escalate issues in production quality, delays, or cost discrepancies for timely resolution Must Have Must be based in New Jersey Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, plus 10+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment Six Sigma certification; preferred Understanding and utilization of lean tools to help facilitate continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment Training experience with manufacturing tools & techniques, standards, regulations; preferred Must be willing to travel 2-4 times a year internationally; each trip will be 1-2 weeks Leadership skills Preferably a background in textiles Must have experience with managing multiple locations Microsoft applications with intermediate in Excel & PowerPoint, Outlook Experience managing deadlines Understanding of budgets & compensation plans Excellent presentation skills Ability to hire, train, & manage a team “Can-do” attitude, willingness to roll up sleeves and get dirty Project management skills Team player: excellence in collaboration with our other departments Phillip Jeffries is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity, inclusion, and equality in the workplace.
