Jo b Summary:

The Laboratory Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood and other specimens from patients in a safe, accurate, and timely manner for diagnostic testing. This role requires excellent patient care skills and a strong understanding of specimen handling, labeling, and processing protocols. The phlebotomist works closely with patients, nurses, and laboratory personnel in a variety of healthcare settings.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks to collect specimens for laboratory analysis. Verify patient identity and ensure proper labeling of all specimens. Prepare specimens for transport or processing, following all safety and quality protocols. Maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions and specimen collections. Provide excellent patient service, ensuring comfort and reassurance during procedures. Follow infection control and safety guidelines at all times. Assist with specimen accessioning, test ordering, and data entry as needed. Maintain inventory and cleanliness of phlebotomy supplies and work area.

Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a certified phlebotomy training program. Strong knowledge of blood collection techniques and medical terminology. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work in fast-paced environments and handle multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in a hospital, clinic, or laboratory setting. Experience with electronic health record (EHR) or laboratory information systems (LIS). Bilingual skills are a plus in diverse patient populations.

Certifications: Certified Phleb otomy Technician I (CPT I) – state Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) – if outside state Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an accredited provider (e.g., AHA or Red Cross)
