Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

An opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support K-12 students in a North Charleston, SC school setting. The role is designed for the current school year (CSY) on a contract basis, offering a chance to apply expertise in facilitating effective munication between hearing-impaired students and educators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction and school activities
  • Assist students with hearing impairments to access educational content fully
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to ensure prehension and inclusion
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to school policies regarding student information
  • Adapt to various classroom environments and acmodate individual student needs

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated interpreting experience
  • Familiarity with K-12 educational environments and child development
  • Strong munication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students and staff
  • Ability to work on a contract basis during the school year
  • Valid certification or accreditation as a Sign Language Interpreter is preferred
