Job Summary And Qualifications
The Phlebotomist performs blood draws on patients who need diagnostic testing. The Phlebotomist is supervised by and works with the RNs to achieve timely pre-procedure blood draws and testing. The Phlebotomist must have interpersonal skills to successfully interact with patients, families, team members, physicians and ancillary staff.
Responsibilities
- You will demonstrate knowledge of physiology and function of the venous system of the human body, and collection techniques used to draw blood from patients.
- You will collect blood samples from patients per laboratory policy and procedure.
- You will decide the best method for drawing blood depending on the specific patient.
- You will practice proper patient identification.
- You will label blood vials according to established procedures including use of automated patient identification systems.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a certified phlebotomy course (strongly preferred)
- Demonstrated phlebotomy experience
- Interpersonal skills to successfully interact with all co-workers, staff, patients, patient families and vendors
- Good phlebotomy, computer, and communication skills
