Required Qualifications
- One year of recent experience as a Telemetry RN
- Current valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
- Current BLS Certification (AHA/ARC)
- Current ACLS Certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) Certification
- NIHSS certification
- Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position
Summary
The Telemetry Registered Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive patient care in a telemetry unit, focusing on continuous cardiac monitoring and assessment. This role includes evaluating patient health, implementing care plans, administering treatments, and collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care for patients with cardiac conditions. The position requires strong clinical skills in telemetry nursing, critical thinking, excellent communication, and a commitment to patient safety and professional ethics.
Essential Work Functions
- Monitors and interprets cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and other telemetry data to detect abnormalities and respond appropriately
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments per nursing techniques, with a focus on cardiac care
- Prepares equipment and assists physicians during cardiac-related procedures and examinations
- Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of telemetry patients
- Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or physician of cardiac status
- Responds to life-saving situations following nursing standards and hospital protocols for cardiac emergencies
- Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned telemetry patients
- Initiates patient education plans focusing on cardiac health, risk factors, and lifestyle modifications
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care
- Maintains patient and client confidentiality
- Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
- Adheres to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
Required Essential Skills
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; proficiency in PC skills
- Physical abilities: remain stationary as needed; move equipment (50-100 lbs); push, pull, and bend
- Interpersonal skills: work effectively with a variety of personnel
- Technical/motor skills: ability to grasp, manipulate, and operate department equipment
- Mental requirements: ability to work under pressure, manage irregular schedules, and maintain attention to detail
- Sensory: visual acuity and effective communication
