Overview

OUC - The Reliable One is seeking an Accountant to join the Accounting Services division. We’re building a bright future of innovation and transformation for our community. We’re looking for an experienced and detail-oriented professional to actively maintain financial records of various accounts in the general ledger daily, reconcile general ledger accounts, prepare journal entries, and analyze reports for variances. This role involves collaborating with team members to identify and resolve discrepancies while ensuring compliance with accounting policies and procedures. You will support month-end closing by preparing account reconciliations, documenting explanations for variances, and creating system reports. Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and proficiency in Excel and accounting software are essential.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited college or university; CPA license or Master’s Degree is preferred
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience as an accountant in a mid-size company (300–500 employees)
  • Strong experience reconciling general ledger accounts, preparing journal entries, analyzing system reports and spreadsheets, conducting financial analysis, and reporting financial impact issues
  • Working knowledge of general accounting, regulatory accounting practices, and accounting department procedures; understanding of applicable policies, ordinances, and laws
  • Experience with Other Post-Employment Benefits and pension accounting is preferred

Salary, Benefits & Location

Salary Range: $64,874 – $81,094 annually (commensurate on experience)

Job Responsibilities

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts to subsystems
  • Review and analyze system reports and spreadsheets; verify detailed data
  • Research account variances and document explanations
  • Prepare journal entries
  • Identify and report financial impact of issues
  • Develop solutions to systemic and non-systemic problems
  • Ensure policy compliance of transactional data
  • Develop efficient business processes; follow through on assignments and status updates
  • Create area-specific system reports; document accounting policy/treatment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Technical Requirements

  • Working knowledge of general accounting, regulatory accounting practices, accounting department procedures
  • Preparing complex reconciliations and journal entries; preparing spreadsheets
  • Familiarity with software applications related to the area; adherence to applicable policies and procedures
  • Willingness to learn; accountability for work product; flexibility in changing environments; ability to multi-task
  • Effective verbal and written communication; keen attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
  • CPA license or Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum three (3) years of accounting experience in a mid-size company

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

This position is performed in an office environment. Physical requirements include sitting, speaking, hearing, reading, typing, writing, and detailed inspection; may include repetitive motions, reaching, standing, bending, and lifting up to 20 lbs.
