You will be responsible for updating the design parameters and implementation details of robust data pipelines, optimizing data processes, ensuring data quality, security, and governance. The role requires knowledge of GCP services and event-driven architectures for real-time and batch data processing from legacy external systems. This position is located in Fairfax, VA with a hybrid work model available. Responsibilities
Lead the design, development, and maintenance of robust data pipelines using Dataflow and Cloud Run Functions to extract data from various sources, transform it, and load it into appropriate landing zones (Pub/Sub, Google Storage, or AlloyDB for PostgreSQL). Collaborate with FAA customers, chief architect, senior engineers, information analysts, business partners, and technology stakeholders to develop and deploy enterprise-grade platforms enabling data-driven solutions. Develop and manage ETL processes using GCP Dataflow with Java-based flex templates to transform data into XML and JSON documents, enriching them for downstream data consumers. Implement and manage advanced data models, including relational, non-relational databases, master data management, Data Plex, and data governance. Integrate data from legacy sources (databases, data warehouses, APIs, external systems) using Dataflow and Cloud Run Functions; ensure data consistency and quality during integration with validation and cleansing as needed. Transform raw data into usable formats through cleansing, aggregation, filtering, and enrichment using Dataflow, Cloud Run Functions, and other GCP services. Design and optimize data pipelines and processing workflows for performance, scalability, and efficiency; monitor and tune data systems and implement indexing strategies to enhance query performance. Implement data quality checks and validations within pipelines to ensure accuracy and completeness of data. Optimize and administer data environments and relevant GCP services to ensure high performance and reliability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver data products and support mission applications, insights, and reporting. Qualifications
Minimum of 12 years of experience in data engineering, with at least 2 years of hands-on experience with Google Cloud services. At least 8 years of experience in data solutions design, management, integration, modeling, optimization, and data quality related to data engineering responsibilities. Strong knowledge of SQL, Python, and Java; Dataflow flex templates are used with Java for data transformations. Experience with cloud platforms such as GCP, GKE, IAM, Terraform, and CI/CD to deliver automated solutions. Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills; ability to identify and resolve issues in unfamiliar code or systems. Strong communication and proactive, getting-things-done mindset. Experience working in Agile teams and familiarity with SCRUM (2-week sprints). Ability to design, build, and deploy data solutions that support mission applications, insights, and reporting. Experience with SQL, NoSQL databases, AlloyDB PostgreSQL, and data architecture in application development or reporting. Ability to collaborate across teams with various technical backgrounds to deliver data products. Proficiency in architectural frameworks like BigQuery, Data Lakes, and event-driven architectures. Hands-on experience managing data projects including cloud migration, data pipelines, virtualization, and lineage. Compensation and Benefits
