We achieve our mission through three main pillars of programming: Enrichment, Performance, and Community. About the Role The Communications & Marketing Manager is a core member of the Development & Communication Department, working in close partnership with the Ads Manager (former Social Media Strategist), Communications & Development Associate, and Development Manager. This role will also collaborate regularly with the Artistic Department for content gathering, strategic planning, and event coordination. This position blends strategic leadership with hands-on execution, managing a robust portfolio that includes digital marketing, content creation, media relations, sponsorship outreach, brand strategy, and audience engagement. The Manager will play a pivotal role in implementing Mama Foundation's multi-phase digital growth plan, utilizing storytelling to connect with donors and audiences, strengthening donor and audience engagement, and ensuring the organization’s work is consistently visible and impactful for the community and beyond. Key upcoming projects LinkedIn Revitalization Project for both the Foundation and the Executive Director. Influencer Outreach and Partnership Campaign to expand audience reach and brand visibility. Community, Corporate, and Business Sponsorship Development. Planning for two of our largest annual events (Champions Dinner & Winter Benefit Concert), including full communications and marketing strategies. Update and implement a communications calendar to ensure alignment across events, campaigns, and ongoing internal and external stakeholder outreach. Launch and manage the End-of-Year Fundraising Campaign, with messaging, collateral, and donor engagement strategies to meet year-end fundraising goals. Annual Report Production in partnership with both external and internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a seasoned communications professional with a gift for storytelling, the ability to create compelling multi-channel content, a passion for the arts, and the skills to turn strategy into measurable results. They should be comfortable attending and capturing content at events, collaborating across departments, and adapting quickly to emerging opportunities. Key Responsibilities Strategic Communications & Marketing
Develop and execute a comprehensive communications plan aligned with organizational, fundraising, and audience engagement goals. Partner with Development leadership to ensure all campaigns and materials drive donor cultivation and retention strategies, audience growth, and community impact. Lead and coordinate cross-departmental marketing initiatives, ensuring alignment between departments. Oversee the execution of a communications calendar to maintain consistent, strategic outreach. Content Creation & Brand Management
Produce and oversee high-quality content for digital, print, and press — including but not limited to newsletters, social media posts, press releases, donor communications, event materials, and campaigns. Maintain a consistent brand voice and visual identity across all platforms. Capture photo/video/audio content at concerts, workshops, and community events for real-time and long-term use. Update and order communications collateral such as information trifolds, business cards, and flyers as needed. Social Media & Digital Growth
Implement the Mama Foundation social media strategy. Manage daily posting and engagement across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, and emerging platforms. Work alongside the Ads Strategist to track and analyze KPIs, SEO performance, and ad metrics, adjusting strategies for maximum impact. Manage regular website updates and upkeep to ensure accuracy, visual appeal, and alignment with brand messaging. Partnership Development
Collaborate with Development to strategize and execute influencer outreach campaigns. Identify and secure community, corporate, and business sponsorships/partnerships to support programming and marketing initiatives. Develop marketing collateral to support sponsorship and partnership pitches. Media Relations & Publicity
Build and maintain relationships with press outlets to secure coverage. Draft and distribute press releases, advisories, and leadership talking points. Identify public-facing opportunities for executive and artistic leadership visibility. Qualifications
5+ years of experience in communications, marketing, or digital content management, preferably in nonprofit and/or arts & culture. Proven ability to create and execute integrated marketing strategies with measurable results. Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills. Strong project management skills — able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in design and content tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) and comfort with CMS platforms, analytics, and SEO. Experience in sponsorship development, influencer engagement, or partnership building a plus. Comfort capturing event content (photo/video/audio) and translating it into engaging multi-channel content. Passion for the arts, music, and celebrating Black cultural legacy.
