Programming Coordinator role at Southern Methodist University. This on-campus, in-person position involves planning, coordinating and executing events to engage prospective and continuing international students, scholars and their families. The coordinator oversees planning and logistics for over 60 programs annually, including orientation and International Education Week, and collaborates with university partners across admissions, recruitment, career center, athletics, and other campus offices responsible for international programs. Essential Functions / Responsibilities
Plan and execute orientation for international students, coordinating logistics of pre-arrival materials and video content, and communicating with campus partners, community organizations and relevant businesses that support international students’ transition during Stampede. Develop, coordinate and execute about 60 events throughout the academic year to support students’ transition to the U.S. and SMU, including at least 5 off-campus events to promote intercultural engagement across the university. Lead and manage the International Leadership Program, designing curriculum and mentoring more than 15 leaders; recruit, interview, hire and prepare ambassadors to support international students and graduate school orientations and year-round engagement. Gather and analyze feedback from students and exchange visitors to assess program effectiveness; prepare annual reports detailing participation and engagement metrics for strategic planning. Support outreach to new undergraduate students classified as foreign nationals; assist with enrollment and matriculation processes for global students; support students with academic performance challenges by coordinating with the Student Support and Retention office as needed. Collaborate with student leaders and campus partners to enhance engagement by managing social media and other marketing channels; develop promotional strategies to increase awareness and participation. Partner with academic departments, student organizations, faculty and other offices to ensure programs are comprehensive and inclusive; maintain relationships with prospective students and families to promote yield. Manage event budgets, ensuring programs stay within financial parameters while maintaining quality; monitor expenditures in collaboration with the Director. Plan and execute events for International Education Week to recognize the international community and collaborate with Admissions, Development, Athletics and other departments to highlight events across university platforms. Provide general supervision support for international student leaders and student workers as needed. Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree is required. A minimum of two (2) years of experience is required. Experience in an International Office serving as an advisor or similar role is desired. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficiency with popular social media platforms and demonstrated ability to promote events online. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, DocuSign and other marketing tools. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to develop relationships across the university. Strong problem-solving, organizational, planning and time management skills. Occasional weekend or evening work may be required for event programming and orientations. Physical and Environmental Demands
