Job Title: Data Architect
Responsibilities
Design and maintain the
enterprise data architecture , including PostgreSQL for operational systems and AWS-based analytics pipelines (S3/Parquet, Glue, Athena, Redshift). Define
canonical data models, schemas, indexes, and partitioning strategies
to support SOA microservices. Lead
ETL/migration efforts
for legacy and newly acquired systems, ensuring data reconciliation, mapping, and quality. Establish and enforce
data governance frameworks , covering metadata, lineage, access control, and auditability (FERPA, COPPA, SOX). Collaborate with DevOps and engineering teams to design
event-driven data flows
(outbox pattern, SQS/SNS/EventBridge). Partner with business stakeholders to translate reporting needs into efficient data structures and pipelines. Implement
performance tuning and query optimization
across databases and analytics tools. Document data architecture, definitions, and policies for long-term clarity and compliance. Mentor engineers and analysts on data modeling, SQL, and governance practices. Skills Deep expertise with
relational databases
(PostgreSQL preferred), including schema design, indexing, and performance tuning. Strong knowledge of
cloud-native data platforms : AWS S3/Parquet, Glue, Athena, Redshift, and optional Snowflake/Databricks. Proficiency with
ETL/ELT tools and pipelines , including Step Functions, Lambda, or ECS workers. Familiarity with
data governance and compliance frameworks
(FERPA, COPPA, SOX). Solid understanding of
event-driven architectures
and streaming patterns. Strong SQL skills; Python or Scala a plus for data processing. Excellent communication and documentation skills to bridge engineering and business. Experience Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience). 7+ years in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise data management. Proven track record of leading
system consolidations and migrations
at scale. Experience implementing
data governance programs
in regulated industries. Hands-on work with
AWS data services
strongly preferred. Key Measurements Delivery of canonical data models that enable interoperability across services. Successful, accurate migrations from legacy and acquired systems. Data quality and governance metrics (accuracy, lineage, compliance readiness). Stakeholder satisfaction with data accessibility and reporting performance. Contribution to SOA stability and scalability.
