We are seeking a

Senior Azure Healthcare Data Platform Engineer

with strong hands-on experience in

FHIR Servers, Azure Health Data Services (HDS) , and

HL7/FHIR R4 integrations

to design and implement a robust, secure, and interoperable healthcare data platform.

This is an

immediate joiner role

requiring strong technical depth in Azure cloud services, .NET frameworks, healthcare interoperability standards, and secure data handling practices.

Position Overview

The selected candidate will be responsible for building and operating a

secure and scalable healthcare data platform

using

Azure Health Data Services (HDS)

and

FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) .

The role will require integrating HL7/FHIR R4 data pipelines, designing REST APIs, managing healthcare data workflows, and developing a

custom SMART on FHIR implementation

for seamless interoperability across internal and external healthcare systems.

The ideal candidate will have deep experience in

Azure services, .NET 8, C#, SQL Server, and cloud data pipelines , as well as familiarity with

OAuth2-based authentication ,

Azure Active Directory (AAD/Entra) , and

auditing and logging frameworks

for compliance with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA).

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and manage a

FHIR-compliant healthcare data platform

using

Azure Health Data Services (HDS) .

Develop and maintain

APIs and integration pipelines

to securely transfer clinical data between internal systems and Azure HDS.

Migrate existing data and processes from

IRIS for Health

to Azure HDS, ensuring data fidelity and regulatory compliance.

Implement

SMART on FHIR

for secure interoperability with healthcare providers, partners, and internal applications.

Ensure compliance with

FHIR R4 standards

and healthcare data interoperability regulations.

Architect and manage cloud infrastructure using

Azure services , including:

Azure API Management (APIM)

for secure and scalable API exposure.

Azure Health Data Services ,

Azure Functions , and

Azure SQL

for backend processing.

Azure Data Factory (ADF)

for ETL workflows.

Azure App Service ,

Private Link , and

Blob Storage

for secure data storage and application hosting.

ARM Templates

and

CI/CD pipelines

for infrastructure automation.

Implement and optimize

data ingestion pipelines

for HL7 and FHIR bulk data.

Set up

Bash and Azure CLI scripts

for automation and infrastructure management.

Design and implement

ETL/ELT processes

using

SSIS ,

Azure Data Factory , and

FHIR Bulk Data APIs .

Integrate HL7 messages and FHIR R4 resources (e.g., Patient, Encounter, Provider, Observation, Claims).

Collaborate with data engineering and interoperability teams to implement

data mapping and transformation rules .

Ensure consistent, high-quality data exchange between provider systems, clinical applications, and external partners.

4. Security, Compliance & Monitoring

Implement

OAuth2 -based authentication and authorization mechanisms using

Azure Active Directory (Entra) .

Ensure compliance with

HIPAA, HITECH, and other healthcare data privacy standards .

Implement

auditing and logging

frameworks to track API access and data transactions.

Design

role-based access control (RBAC)

and

data encryption strategies

for secure data handling.

Work closely with InfoSec and compliance teams to monitor and mitigate potential data risks.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including

data architects, developers, clinicians, and business analysts .

Architecture diagrams, API schemas, and integration flows.

Data lineage and transformation logic.

Infrastructure deployment and monitoring processes.

Provide knowledge transfer sessions and mentor junior engineers.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Core Technical Skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in healthcare data models (e.g.,

Member, Provider, Encounter, Claims, Observation ).

Familiarity with

FHIR Server development

and

FHIR validation frameworks .

Experience with

Azure Monitor ,

Application Insights , and

Log Analytics

for platform observability.

Knowledge of

containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)

for scalable deployments.

Experience integrating with

Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems .

Microsoft certifications such as:

Azure Solutions Architect Expert

FHIR and Health Data Services specialization

Soft Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and architectural thinking.

Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.

Effective collaboration in cross-functional and remote teams.

Adaptability to emerging healthcare interoperability technologies and evolving Azure services.
