Principal Enterprise Architect role at Kanak Elite Services. Location: Chicago, IL or Houston, TX. Hybrid role requiring in-office attendance 2-3 days per week. Duration: 12+ month contract. Responsibilities
Lead architecture strategy and direction, influencing Client's strategy and providing tactical guidance to functional teams. Apply enterprise architecture governance over solutions that provide technical capabilities. Collaborate with domain architects, engineers, and leaders to develop technical standards, reference architectures, design patterns, and architecture decision frameworks to guide technology solutions, especially those requiring integration of multiple platforms, operating systems, and applications. Develop and manage a technical strategy and coordinate its adoption. Architect enterprise guidance that conveys standard processes and common pitfalls for system design, infrastructure integrations, application development practices, and runtime principles. Manage the architecture review process by creating validation checklists, reviewing architectural artifacts, and providing domain-specific guidance to drive alignment across the enterprise. Lead cultural change for cloud adoption. Promote cloud services where appropriate to ensure that the organization properly architectures business solutions for cloud, and advocate best practices for cloud adoption. Apply architectural and engineering concepts to design solutions that meet operational requirements such as scalability, maintainability, security, reliability, extensibility, flexibility, availability, and manageability. Conduct research and develop proofs of concept on emerging technologies and toolkits; recommend cost-effective, robust technologies; enforce and drive the adoption of standard design patterns across the enterprise. Identify new technologies and industry trends to be incorporated into policies and roadmaps. Translate business strategy into technical strategy and define end-to-end technology architectures that support the strategy. Lead evaluation and selection of third-party software packages (including SaaS) and design standard configurations for these packages. Develop and maintain Enterprise Architecture artifacts (current state architecture, standards, reference architectures, capability maps) in the EA repository. Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or other computer-related field. 7+ years of demonstrable experience, including at least 5 years of relevant Enterprise Architecture experience. Experience as a Principal Enterprise Architect, Chief Architect, or Head of Enterprise Architecture in a global organization. Experience guiding technology strategy and working with Domain Architects and Solution Architects in preparation for Architecture Review Board, Architecture Portfolio Management, and Architecture Assessments. Provide guidance, oversight, and coaching to Domain and Solution Architects; review and sign off on architecture designs; drive improvements of architecture processes and assets. Develop architecture metrics and plans; strong technical writing skills for documenting environments and procedures. Hands-on experience leading design, development, and deployment of business software at scale; strong background in infrastructure, network, compute, storage, and virtualization. Deep experience with cloud computing technologies and workload transitions; knowledge of API management, microservices, service mesh, API security, resiliency, and observability; experience with caching (e.g., Redis). Experience migrating systems/workloads from monolithic to microservices in the cloud; knowledge of enterprise identity and access management solutions for authentication and authorization including tools to support open policy agents. Ability to adopt new trends in GenAI and Agentic AI to influence EA processes and accelerate core frameworks; ability to partner across teams to gain consensus and enable change; strong communication skills for senior stakeholders. Master’s degree in Computer Science. AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or higher; Enterprise Architecture certifications (Zachman, TOGAF, Gartner). 3-5 years of EA experience; 3-5 years of AWS experience.
