Santa Clara, California, United States Johnson & Johnson is hiring for a Principal R&D Engineer (Ophthalmology) – Shockwave Medical to join our team in Santa Clara, CA. This role involves developing innovative ophthalmology products, advancing research and development activities, and contributing to the company’s goals in line with regulatory and quality requirements. Position Overview

The Principal R&D Engineer (Ophthalmology) will apply technical skills to develop products for ophthalmic diseases including presbyopia, glaucoma, and dry eye. Responsible for advanced research and development of products and processes, resources, and project management to execute company goals and objectives. Essential Job Functions

Enhance the company’s intellectual property position via invention disclosures and patent applications. Support a long-term strategy with Technology Development Team for examining new designs, advanced materials, and processing methods for next-generation ophthalmology device concepts. Design and develop products in compliance with Design Control requirements and applicable regulatory requirements. Prototype and develop proof-of-concept designs, disease models, and test methods in simulated environments; develop new product designs based on defined user needs. Perform new product testing (bench, animal, and clinical evaluation) with protocol and test report documentation. Collaborate with clinical/scientific advisors and Key Opinion Leaders to translate clinical needs into design solutions. Participate as SME or core team member on product development teams from concept through technology development. Ensure proper documentation in line with the company quality system. Develop protocols/reports and perform product in-vitro and in-vivo as well as verification and validation testing. Identify suppliers and maintain relationships to ensure delivery of high-quality components and services. Maintain knowledge of competitive technologies and related biomedical developments. Provide component and assembly documentation for new products. Provide regular updates on milestones and issues to project teams and management. Support company goals, policies, procedures, Quality Systems, and FDA regulations. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

BS in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering and 10 years of engineering experience in medical device development OR MS and 8 years of engineering experience in medical device development. Experience developing disposable medical devices and testing. Strong understanding of engineering materials, component selection, and design for reliability and manufacturability. Experience in developing disposable ophthalmology treatment devices is a strong plus. Proven strong knowledge and extensive experience using 3D modeling SolidWorks software. Effective communication skills with all levels of management and organizations. Ability to operate independently and adapt to changing requirements. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities. Employee may be required to lift objects up to 25 lbs. Equal Opportunity

The anticipated base pay range for this position is: $141,000 - $227,700. Benefits
