Overview

Senior Mechanical Engineer (design and development)

at Agile Search Inc. A Boston area startup developing a clinically significant medical device for a large patient population. This is a hands-on, design-focused role within a multi-disciplinary engineering team and external product development collaborations. Responsibilities

Design mechanical subsystems and components for disposables and complex assemblies. Build prototypes and conduct benchtop evaluations. Execute design verification and generate engineering documentation, including mechanical drawings, tolerance analyses, verification test protocols and reports, and risk assessments. Collaborate with suppliers to secure components and perform deep analysis on cost of goods to support cost reduction. Work with cross-functional teams, including EE and Software Engineers, to solve problems and develop new designs and methods. Participate in a startup environment where additional responsibilities may arise beyond the defined scope. Qualifications and Industry Experience

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (M.S. preferred) or related field. 5-10 years of medical device industry experience designing and developing disposable and/or mechanical components for medical devices. Working knowledge of medical device design, documentation, and regulatory considerations (e.g., sterilization, biocompatibility, reliability, FDA 510(k), IEC 60601 and 62366). Experience designing and prototyping miniature, high-tolerance components and complex mechanical subassemblies. Strong ability to analyze Cost of Goods and work to reduce manufacturing costs for high-volume disposables. Proficiency with CAD for detailed engineering drawings; experience with mold designs and various manufacturing methods and materials. Experience in mechanical drug delivery technologies (preferred but not required). Ability to write effective test protocols and reports and conduct lab prototype and design verification testing. Strong collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional teams. Knowledge of power systems and electro-mechanical efficiency. Strong problem-solving, analytical skills, time management, and ability to manage to project schedules (Gantt charts). Excellent written and oral English language proficiency. Employment details
