Overview
Senior Industrial Air Systems Designer position with Thermal Systems Group. Primary customers are in the paper manufacturing sector. Main Duties/Responsibilities
AutoCAD proficiency in 2D design is required. Experience in 3D modeling is preferred (Advance Steel, Graitec, Tekla, Inventor or equivalent). Create system layout and detail drawings for mechanical componentry, ductwork, stiffened platework, support steel, and access. Generate field erection and shop fabrication detail drawings. Ability to detail connections based on engineer-provided input. Analyze specifications, design data, sketches, take-offs, and related engineering drawings. Confer with engineering and design staff to resolve design issues; may include checking drawings produced by others. Industries served include power plants, paper mills, chemical plants, and refineries. Some travel required (typical 4–6 trips per year; each trip about 2–3 nights away; additional day trips as needed). Obtain field measurements, climb ladders, stairs, and elevated platforms as required. Develop building openings sketches and ductwork routing sketches around known interferences during site visits. Ensure design solutions balance aesthetics, user experience, performance, manufacturability, and cost. Develop design documentation package, including material, color, finish specifications, and functional specifications. Conduct and leverage user research, market analysis, and usability studies to inform design decisions and drive user-centered design when applicable. Demonstrate deep understanding of materials, manufacturing processes (DFM/A), and mechanical engineering principles. Communicate effectively; provide leadership and mentorship to junior designers. Qualifications
A degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or equivalent. 10+ years of hands-on design experience. Knowledge of manufacturing processes and downstream product delivery. Experience in AutoCAD 2D design. Ability to design system air handling apparatus and ductwork systems and to detail connections based on engineer input. Willingness and ability to travel approximately 4–8 times per year (2–4 days per trip) and make occasional day trips. Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and Microsoft Teams for collaboration. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain project execution schedules. Valid driver’s license and insurability; legal to work in the United States. Job Type: Full-time Benefits
