This position is eligible for the

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) , a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Duties

Responsibilities include supervising, mentoring, and teaching graduates including GI fellows and residents; managing diagnostic, preventative, and therapeutic gastroenterological and endoscopic services; performing diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower endoscopy (including bleeding control, polypectomy, EMR, PEGs, and dilation); collaborating with health professionals across the medical center and providing consultations to other services; possessing basic endoscopic skills with interest in clinical/research participation. The position includes a faculty appointment at the affiliated Louisiana State University Health and Science Center. Work Schedule

Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Benefits and Incentives

EDRP Authorized:

Paid Time Off:

50-55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 federal holidays, and up to 5 days CME). Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% VA contributions. Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care. Licensure:

1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory.

CME:

Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (full-time with board certification).

Malpractice:

Free liability protection with tail coverage.

Contract:

No physician employment contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting. Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA policy); Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine degree from a school approved by VA; current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the US; residency training approved by VA in an accredited core specialty program leading to board eligibility; English proficiency; subject to background/security investigation; pre-employment checks including drug testing where applicable; pre-placement medical examination; influenza vaccination requirement; probationary period may apply. Additional Requirement:

Board Eligible or Board Certified in Gastroenterology. Preferred Experience:

Proficiency in basic GI endoscopy procedures including EGD and colonoscopy. References

Placement subject to meeting physical requirements. Pre-placement medical examination required. Functional and environmental requirements include lifting 45 pounds, carrying, reaching, use of fingers, walking and standing, visual and auditory abilities, and the ability to work with others or independently. Education: Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine from LCME- or AOA-accredited schools; foreign medical graduates must satisfy ECFMG requirements, if applicable. Other Information
