Overview
Vice President for External Relations (VPER) at Bryn Mawr College. This role reports to the President and leads the college’s external relationship-building, external communications, and government relations to elevate Bryn Mawr’s visibility, reputation, and impact. Responsibilities
Identify and build strategic relationships with external partners to raise the college’s visibility and reputation locally, regionally, and nationally. Lead external engagement and collaborate with the President, Chief of Staff, and senior leadership to advance the college’s mission and strategic priorities with non-alumna/i constituents. Manage external communications initiatives and draft a wide variety of presidential communications addressing key issues and priorities. Oversee Bryn Mawr’s government relations efforts: identify coalitions, build relationships with key elected officials, and advise the President on local, state, and federal policies impacting Bryn Mawr, liberal arts colleges, and higher education. Partner with other college functions (e.g., enrollment and advancement) as appropriate to support externally focused priorities. Serve as a strong writer and spokesperson for the college when necessary, communicating Bryn Mawr’s mission and values. Qualifications
At least ten years of experience in external engagement and reputational elevation of an institution, ideally in higher education with national scope. Excellence in written and spoken communications; ability to work with ambiguity in an entrepreneurial environment; collaborative and collegial approach. Track record of identifying new external constituencies and engaging a diverse range of audiences; experience with external partnerships beyond the college is a plus. Experience working with functions such as enrollment and advancement is a plus; understanding of the cultural, political, and economic landscape of the greater Philadelphia region.
