The Manager, Research Operations is responsible for the daily planning, organizing, directing and controlling the operations of the assigned area to meet the needs of customers, Faculty and support Medical Center goals and philosophies. The role includes fiscal responsibility through preparation of unit budgets, liaison with Faculty and other personnel, supporting research, and participating in strategic and tactical planning. The Manager reports to the Department Chair and/or Institute Executive Director and serves as the primary information source for the department. Primary Duties And Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with state and federal laws, accreditation, professional and regulatory standards and licensure requirements. Maintain staff compliance with medical center policies, procedures and protocols. Assume fiscal responsibility for the department including unit budget preparation, labor and supply cost management, and revenue enhancement. Track and report high-level Capital/Operations projects. Prepare complex or high-level regular and ad-hoc financial reports for the Department Chair and/or Institute Executive Director. Develop processes and tools to monitor research funding and activities. Collaborate with the Department Chair, Institute Executive Director and/or Division Director to develop business operations plans for the department and specific programs and services. Supervise research protocols as mandated for research and ensure quality and continuous improvement. Maintain quality management and oversight programs. Supervise department employees, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, compensation, discipline and termination as needed. Interact regularly with Principal Investigators (PIs) and staff to assess team needs, provide information and resolve issues. Promote a team atmosphere and manage onboarding of new lab staff, develop job descriptions, conduct annual appraisals, identify staffing needs, conduct probationary meetings, and coach/terminate staff as appropriate. Develop business and operations plans for the department and specific programs in collaboration with leadership. Manage human resources and supplies to optimize productivity; develop staffing plans and resource allocation; participate in selecting outside service providers when needed. Collaborate with other research, department and clinical/support service managers to foster cross-functional process improvement and coordination of services. Work with the Office of Research Administration and Research Grant Specialist to ensure grant awards are managed for Faculty with primary appointments in the area. Facilitate Faculty contracting processes in coordination with Academic Human Resources. Performs all other duties as assigned. Department-Specific Responsibilities

Clinical & Translational Research Center/Science Institute (CTRC/CTSI): understand CTSI program, governance, and its relationship to the Research Institute and Cedars-Sinai. Complete CTSI competency and Orientation Plan; comply with Human Subject Protections (IRB) requirements. Oversee CTRC compliance activities with the Research Subject Advocate Medical Director; oversee Scientific Advisory Committee meetings for new protocol reviews. possess grantsmanship knowledge (pre- and post-award), grant writing, and submission of continuation or competitive grant applications to support clinical research infrastructure. Responsible for annual NIH-NCATS CTSI reporting requirements and budgets; assist with CTSI core programs. Inflammatory Bowel and Immunobiology Research Institute (IBIRI): support onboarding of new Research faculty recruits and ensure HR, safety, immigration, labs, relocation planning, space and equipment readiness. Manage budget variance explanations, oversee transfers, and work with the Research Grant Specialist on budget and staffing information. Neurosurgery: support onboarding and budgeting for research activities; oversee transfers and monthly reconciliation related to research grant management; collaborate with the Research Grant Specialist. Regenerative Medicine Institute (RMI): reconcile tracked expenses, participate in annual budget preparation, and coordinate with the Research Grant Specialist on budget and staffing. Emergency Medicine Research: oversee regulatory/IRB operations, serve as sub/co-investigator on trials, manage Investigator-initiated study applications, coordinate with sponsors and sites, obtain informed consent, ensure compliance, develop research databases and SOPs, mentor staff, and provide direct patient care as appropriate. Qualifications
