About the Department of Pediatrics The Department of Pediatrics provides family-centered health care, education, and a voice of advocacy for children in Illinois. We engage with the community to improve child health and lead in basic and clinical research in pediatrics. About the Section of Genetics The Section of Pediatric Genetics offers state-of-the-art diagnostic and clinical services for birth defects and genetic disorders, including genetic counseling, carrier testing, and prenatal diagnosis. We maintain an on-site diagnostic laboratory and a newborn screen follow-up program funded by IDPH. We provide genetics education for staff and students. Job Summary The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Illinois Chicago seeks a board-certified Metabolic Geneticist with expertise in biochemical genetics. Faculty rank and tenure are commensurate with experience. Duties and Responsibilities Diagnosis and Genetic Counseling: Identify and diagnose inherited metabolic disorders through genetic testing and clinical evaluation; provide genetic counseling to patients and families regarding disorders, inheritance, and implications for pregnancies. Medical Management: Develop and implement treatment plans for metabolic disorders, including dietary modifications, medications, enzyme replacement therapy, and other treatments as appropriate. Research and Clinical Trials: Conduct or participate in research studies and clinical trials related to metabolic disorders, including basic, translational, or clinical research. Patient Care and Follow-up: Monitor patients over time, manage complications, and adjust treatment plans; provide ongoing support to patients and families. Collaboration: Work with genetic counselors, pediatricians, internists, dietitians, and specialized nurses to coordinate comprehensive care. Education: Educate medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals about metabolic disorders and current advancements.
