POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Full Stack Web & App Developer leads the design, development, and maintenance of secure, accessible, and high-performing UI/UX full-stack patient, caregiver, navigator, and user web and mobile app portals for the Colorectal Cancer Alliance. This role contributes to the full user experience strategy across mission-critical platforms - BlueHQ platform (patients, caregivers, navigators), K-SPY (clinical trial platform), research portals, and public web properties - ensuring usability, accessibility, and engagement in high-stakes environments. All solutions must meet strict HIPAA/HITECH and ADA/WCAG compliance standards.
The role bridges human-centered UI/UX web and mobile app portals design with backend architecture, ensuring that platform design is tightly integrated with data visualization, patient registry, AI-assisted tools, and research workflows. The developer creates scalable UI/UX design systems, supports multi-sided portals for diverse stakeholders, and drives a continuous feedback loop to evolve our platforms based on real user needs.
This position is technology-agnostic - able to deliver full-stack web and app solutions using hosting and development stacks as organizational needs evolve. It includes the traditional definition of full stack web to include mobile application development.

Key Strategic Responsibilities
Leads Human-Centered Design Across Mission-Critical Platforms Collaborates on UX strategy for public web, BlueHQ, K-SPY, and research portals - multi-sided platforms serving patients, caregivers, clinicians, and researchers - ensuring intuitive, accessible, and emotionally resonant experiences. Designs for patient, caregiver, clinician, and researcher needs and other diverse audiences. Applies ADA/WCAG 2.1 AA and HIPAA/HITECH constraints in all UX decisions. Bridges Design, Data and AI
Integrates UX with backend architecture, data pipelines, and analytics layers for data-rich dashboards, structured/unstructured data display, analytics, and more. Designs interfaces for AI-assisted tools (e.g., RAG pipelines, GenAI copilots) to enhance navigation, research, and decision-making. Partner with marketing, communications, engineers, architects, and research teams to ensure seamless user-facing integration. Builds and Guides Scalable Design Systems and Standards
Develops reusable design systems, component libraries, and UI/UX standards to ensure consistency across web and portal environments. Implements mobile/web frameworks that reduce fragmentation, accelerate iteration and maintain brand alignment. Documents and maintains UX/UI patterns for cross-team adoption. Elevates Web & Portal Strategy Across Constituents
Supports and integrates the full range of web experiences - from public education and advocacy to personalized, secure portals. Aligns platform UX with the organizational objectives, engagement goals, research, scientific credibility, and advocacy mission. Manage integration with third-party platforms for events, advocacy, and fundraising. Ensures scalability for future features, integrations, and user groups. Drives Stakeholder Research and Continuous Feedback Loops
Designs and executes UX research plans, including interviews, surveys, usability testing, and other methods. Creates structured feedback pipelines for patients, caregivers, researchers, pharma partners, and internal teams to guide product roadmaps. Translates research insights into prioritized product and design decisions. Measure engagement, usability, and satisfaction across platforms. Technical Responsibilitiesreact
Front-End & Application Development
Build responsive web interfaces using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), React (preferred), TailwindCSS, and component-based architecture. Develop mobile applications using:
Cross-platform frameworks such as React Native or Flutter for reusable code and consistent UX across iOS and Android. Native development where required (Swift/Objective-C for iOS, Kotlin/Java for Android).
Integrate web and mobile applications with REST and GraphQL APIs. Implement AWS Amplify Studio UI components or equivalent design system tools in other stacks. Optimize Core Web Vitals and performance metrics for both web and mobile. Back-End Development
Build secure APIs and server-side applications using Node.js, PHP, or Python. Manage relational (SQL) and NoSQL databases, warehouses, and lakes (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, RedShift, HealthLake). Implement secure authentication via AWS Cognito (OAuth2, federated identities) or equivalent identity management. Apply role-based access control (RBAC) and encryption for HIPAA-compliant data handling. Cloud & CI/CD
If AWS Amplify: Configure hosting, authentication, API Gateway, GraphQL schema, S3 static hosting, and CloudWatch for frontend/mobile observability. If other stacks: Implement equivalent hosting, authentication, API management, and monitoring pipelines. Maintain CI/CD pipelines via Amplify Console, GitHub Actions, GitLab, or equivalent, supporting both web and mobile deployment workflows. Integration & Data Capture
Build dynamic form workflows using Amplify Studio form builder or equivalent frameworks, integrated with REDCap. Implement autosave, mobile-first form design, and encrypted form submissions. Integrate with MuleSoft APIs, Salesforce REST endpoints, and other third-party systems. Compliance, Accessibility & Security
Enforce ADA/WCAG compliance and HIPAA/HITECH secure UX design principles for both web and mobile applications. Mask PHI in UI where appropriate, implement session timeouts, and log access events. Conduct vulnerability scanning and apply secure coding best practices across all platforms. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
8+ years of full stack hands-on development experience
with demonstrated UI/UX ownership. Must have proficiency
in TypeScript, JavaScript frameworks (React, Native
and
Node) and CSS frameworks (TailwindCSS). Must have mobile development experience
with React Native, Flutter, or native iOS/Android languages preferred. Experience with AWS Amplify (or similar AWS-based web/app development) and Cognito and equivalent hosting/authentication platforms. Strong API integration skills (REST, GraphQL, API Gateway). Must have strong SQL skilss and dbt experience. Familiarity with CMS platforms (Drupal, WordPress, headless CMS). Working knowledge of UX research tools and methodologies. Experience with HIPAA-compliant UX and secure data handling.
SALARY RANGE:
Competitive non-profit salary, typically ranging from
$120,000-$140,000 , based on experience and qualifications.
