Senior Hardware Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer to help design and develop embedded hardware systems for electronic control modules (ECUs) used in connected infotainment and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). This role is part of a collaborative team working on innovative solutions for the VW Group. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external partners to bring new hardware products from concept to launch.

Key Responsibilities

• Hardware Design (80%)
• Design, verify, and develop hardware for embedded systems.
• Support all phases of hardware development, from concept through production.
• Develop and refine hardware functions and specifications for ECUs.
• Collaborate with internal teams to understand application needs and define hardware requirements.
• Work with suppliers to select components and support integration.
• Ensure designs meet regulatory, security, and performance standards.
• Act as a liaison between VW Group engineering teams and external development partners.
• Lead or participate in meetings, workshops, and technical reviews related to hardware development.
• Identify and escalate issues as needed and propose technical solutions.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Clear and effective communication—written, verbal, and interpersonal.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
• Collaborative mindset with a proactive, self-starting attitude.
• 7+ years of experience in embedded hardware design, ideally in automotive or mobile device development.

Technical Expertise

• Hardware and software communication architectures.
• System-on-Chip (SoC) power management.
• Bluetooth and Wi-Fi integration.
• Backend system architectures.
• Designing secure systems that meet regulatory and internal standards.
• Automotive and communication standards (e.g., 3GPP, SAE, GBT, ETSI).
• Hardware Security Modules (HSM) and Trusted Execution Environments (TEE).
• Automotive EE architectures and development processes.
• Embedded connected systems, including hardware/software interface design.
• Board Support Package (BSP) and QTI methods.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with infotainment and driver assistance systems.
• Familiarity with rapid software prototyping and validation.
• Programming in C or C++.
• Digital Signal Processing (DSP) knowledge.
• Understanding of connected vehicle systems and ICE power requirements.
• Experience with CI/CD toolchains.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Software Engineering (required).
